About the Opportunity:
Are you an experienced drafter looking to take ownership of major projects while helping shape the next generation of drafting talent?
At Holcim Australia, we are passionate about building progress for people and the planet. Our Humes precast concrete division is looking for a collaborative, technically skilled Senior Draftsperson to join our Technical Services team based in our Milton (Brisbane) office.
Reporting directly to the Lead Design Draftsperson, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality engineering shop drawings for precast reinforced concrete elements used in projects across Australia. This is a fantastic opportunity to work independently, set the pace for drafting excellence, and act as a supportive mentor to our junior team members.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):
In this role, you will blend your technical expertise with a collaborative mindset to drive projects forward:
- Take the lead: Document engineering shop drawings for precast reinforced concrete elements, ensuring they are accurate, timely, and perfectly suited for manufacture.
- Manage priorities: Actively oversee timelines for multiple projects to ensure efficient workflows and swift responses to team requirements.
- Champion AutoCAD best practices: Utilise your high-level AutoCAD proficiency (2D and 3D) to enhance templates, optimize library components (like Dynamic Blocks), and work on new product developments.
- Mentor and inspire: Support and guide junior drafting staff, helping to elevate their skills, maintain high quality standards, and foster a positive team environment.
- Ensure quality and safety: Conduct independent drafting checks as part of our QA processes, maintain precise project records, and champion a safe system of work.
- Focus on buildability: Apply strong critical thinking to ensure drawings are not just accurate on a screen, but are highly practical, optimised for production, and suitable for manufacture in our factories.
- Connect with stakeholders: Build strong, constructive relationships with internal engineers, factory staff, and external consultants to resolve bottlenecks smoothly.
What You'll Bring (About You):
We are looking for a team player who is organised, communicative, and passionate about quality craftsmanship:
- Experience: Credible drafting experience, specifically within structural or precast concrete environments.
- Technical Skills: Advanced expertise in AutoCAD (both 2D and 3D applications).
- Qualifications: An Advanced Diploma from a technical college (or equivalent qualification). Tertiary qualifications are highly regarded but not essential.
- Critical thinking & practical insight: A proven ability to look at complex designs critically, anticipating manufacturing or construction challenges before they arise. You don't just duplicate designs; you actively think about how things get built.
- People Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a natural ability to train and mentor others.
- Adaptability: The ability to prioritise your workload effectively to meet competing deadlines using the wider drafting team as needed.
