This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

Drayton State School:

Drayton State School, on the southern outskirts of Toowoomba, caters for Prep to Year 6 with approximately 160 students and 7 classroom teachers.

The school operates on a belief that learning is collaborative and includes students, teachers and parents working together to achieve the educational goals. We are proud of our school's history in being the oldest continuing Queensland state school, and communicate this through many of our programs and events whilst also delivering a contemporary curriculum that reflects the needs and aspirations of the current student population.

Middle Ridge State School:

Middle Ridge State School is situated on the southern and expanding boundary of Toowoomba on Queensland's Darling Downs.

This growing and complex semi-urban Prep to Year 6 Primary School has a student enrolment of more than 700 students, drawn largely from the provincial centre of Toowoomba as well as several outlying semi-rural areas.

Middle Ridge State School is a safe, disciplined, inclusive and respectful learning environment where dedicated staff are well supported by a positive and committed community that encourages its students to strive for their learning potential.

Your Role:

As the Family Support Coordinator you will assist the school to support children and families successfully transition into school from early childhood services. You will facilitate access to learning or engagement supports to help establish positive patterns of school attendance, behaviour and engagement in learning. You will link families to external government and non-government supports and services to reduce barriers to learning for students.

Travel is a part of this role. Based at Drayton State School you will also provide support to Middle Ridge State School, as follows:-

Drayton State School - 0.50FTE
Middle Ridge State School - 0.50FTE

The successful applicant will:

Work with classroom teachers, teacher aides and specialist support staff to understand the child's needs and connect families with services, such as health, therapeutic and developmental interventions to support engagement with learning.
Work with and support the needs of vulnerable children from diverse and complex backgrounds, including First Nations young persons with disability and young persons in care.
Support family capacity building to assist their child's learning, development and wellbeing, ongoing engagement in school, and the school to respond to the complex needs of students and families.
Assist school communities advocating for vulnerable children and families to address their needs and facilitate engagement in learning for improved learning outcomes.

Experience working in a culturally responsive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or a willingness to work and train in culturally appropriate approaches is essential.

Knowledge of the regions demographic and local service providers and agency supports would be highly regarded.
