About the role
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for providing specialist expertise within the Data Platforms area of the Technology & Data Services team and more broadly across Housing Choices Australia as appropriate.
The primary purpose of Senior Data Engineer role is to provide expert data engineering pipeline design & build skills, data ETL, and hands on data modelling expertise in support of making core data assets available for access and consumption from Housing Choices selected data platform.
This role is a maximum-term, full-time opportunity for a period of 12 months.
Design, develop and support scalable data pipelines, integrations and data solutions within Microsoft Fabric and Azure, ensuring reliable and efficient data delivery.
Build and maintain curated data products using Bronze, Silver and Gold data architecture principles to support reporting, analytics and business applications.
Implement data quality, monitoring, security, governance and recovery processes to ensure data services are accurate, secure, available and compliant.
Manage source control, release processes and continuous improvement activities using Azure DevOps and Git, while maintaining high-quality technical documentation.
Collaborate with stakeholders, vendors and technical teams to provide data platform expertise, drive best practices, mentor colleagues and deliver customer-focused solutions.
Skills and Experiences:
About you
You will have:
Bachelor of Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or equivalent
Demonstrated senior-level experience designing, building and operating production data platforms in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
Practical experience with Microsoft Fabric data engineering capabilities, including Fabric Data Factory, OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, notebooks, pipelines and enterprise data-integration patterns.
Strong SQL, ETL/ELT, API-integration and data-modelling capability, including dimensional modelling, curated reporting data sets, performance tuning and data-quality controls.
Working knowledge of Python, PySpark or equivalent technologies for data transformation, automation and orchestration.
Experience applying data governance, security and privacy requirements in technical solutions
