The Department
Alfred Care Group’s Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.
The acute physiotherapy service is organised into five functional streams, namely: Intensive Care, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, PAN (Progressive Illness, Aged Care and Neurosciences), and Sandringham. The first four streams are located at The Alfred site, with the latter being based at the Sandringham site. The physiotherapy service provides acute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics, trauma, burns, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehabilitation, neurology and neurosurgery, stroke, renal, infectious diseases, haematology/oncology, general medicine, haemophilia and emergency.
The physiotherapy service at Caulfield Hospital provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation, aged care and residential care services. The physiotherapy service provides subacute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: neurology, non-traumatic spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, amputees, burns, complex regional pain, cardiac rehabilitation, aged care, transitional care and aged psychiatry. The physiotherapy department is organised into functional streams: Neurological Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Health of Older Persons (HOP) and ABI.
The Alfred Care Group's Physiotherapy Department has more than 100 EFT and employs over 170 staff. The physiotherapy service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy through clinical research. The Alfred Care Group Physiotherapy Department is a major partner in the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for both La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides core and elective clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students.
The Role
This Senior Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal/Amputee Rehabilitation) is responsible for the ongoing development and provision of the physiotherapy services to the Caulfield Hospital Musculoskeletal/Amputee Rehabilitation service within the Alfred Care Group – Bayside Health with support from The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist (Amputee Rehabilitation) and/or the Stream Lead (Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation). The role encompasses work across the inpatient rehabilitation wards including orthopaedic, burns and general rehabilitation, outpatient amputee service and Better at Home Program. The Senior Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal/Amputee Rehabilitation) will be required to rotate across the Better at Home Program and wards/outpatient amputees.
The Senior Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal/Amputee Rehabilitation) is expected to be contributing to the overall service outcomes of the Musculoskeletal/Amputee rehabilitation service at the level of a developing expert. The Senior Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal/Amputee Rehabilitation) will have a clinical caseload within the amputee and rehabilitation service whilst being responsible for the supervision and development of Grade 1 staff assigned to their area of responsibility. They are responsible for the education of physiotherapy students both undergraduate and postgraduate and the supervision and professional development of all staff assigned to the stream.
The Senior Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal/Amputee Rehabilitation) is encouraged to be engaged in research and quality activities within their specialised area of interest and encouraging the team to build a research and quality portfolio in their areas, or more broadly for the physiotherapy service. The Senior Physiotherapist has an important role contributing to the development of individuals, the clinical team and the physiotherapy service through good leadership, teamwork and communication.

The position may require work at any of the x3 hospitals Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham hospitals.

The position may require evening or weekend work as overtime or for time off in lieu of working the weekend.

The position includes supervision of Grade 1 staff, AHAs and undergraduate students.
Skills and Qualifications Required

Registered to practice in the state of Victoria (AHPRA)

Demonstrated advanced knowledge and skills in the provision of physiotherapy services to musculoskeletal and amputee rehabilitation patients
