The Team
The People Branch delivers strategic and operational human resources services across the AEC, supporting employees, managers and business areas through expert advice, practical support and innovative workforce solutions. The branch is responsible for a broad range of functions, including workforce strategy and planning, recruitment, HR operations, employee relations, learning and development, diversity and culture, safety and wellbeing, remuneration, HR systems, and workforce reporting and insights. Working in partnership with business areas, the branch combines a strategic focus with strong operational delivery to support organisational priorities and workforce capability.
The Wellbeing team forms part of the People Branch and leads the agency’s approach to employee health, safety and wellbeing. The team provides expert support and advice on injury management, early intervention, return-to-work programs and workplace wellbeing initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislative requirements. Through a proactive and collaborative approach, the team assists employees and managers to achieve safe, sustainable work outcomes while fostering a supportive and healthy workplace culture.
The Opportunity
The Assistant Director, Workplace Integrity Case Coordination provides strategic coordination and executive assurance for the management of complex, high-risk people and integrity matters across the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). Operating as the Workplace Integrity Case Coordinator, the role maintains a single, authoritative view of cases and orchestrates cross-functional inputs across Employee Relations, Security, Wellbeing, Fraud and Legal. The position sits within the Employee Relations and Wellbeing section of the People Branch and contributes to strategic planning, projects and decision-making across the work area.
The role supports Accountable Executives (AEs) by ensuring consistent and effective case triage, progression, escalation, reporting and closure. Key responsibilities include assessing and managing workplace integrity matters in accordance with established thresholds, maintaining authoritative case records, coordinating timelines and dependencies, facilitating case forums, and ensuring clear information flows to support informed and defensible decision-making. The position also identifies and escalates key risks, including cross-domain issues, and provides clear, risk-based advice and reporting to senior leaders and executive committees.
In addition, the role ensures robust governance through effective documentation, oversight and case management practices, while analysing trends and systemic risks to inform prevention strategies, policy development and capability uplift initiatives. Success in the role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills, sound judgement and professionalism when managing sensitive matters, and the ability to foster a collaborative, accountable and proactive risk culture. The position also contributes to broader Employee Relations and Wellbeing priorities across the organisation.
To excel you’ll have:
- Demonstrated experience working across multifaceted case environments (e.g. employee relations, integrity, security, investigations or governance). Strong understanding of APS legislative, policy and accountability frameworks, or the ability to rapidly acquire and apply this knowledge.
- Proven ability to exercise sound, independent judgement on complex, sensitive and high risk matters.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with and influence senior leaders and executives, providing clear, evidence-based and risk-informed advice to support decision-making.
- Highly developed organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, monitor interdependencies and effectively prioritise competing demands.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise and influential briefs, reports and committee papers for senior audiences.
- Demonstrated discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Desirable
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience working within a Human Resources environment.
