Salary Range: $105821.37 to $122981.63 per annum + super (subject to skills and experience)

Environment and Resilience
The Environment & Resilience Business Unit manages complex environmental and engineering programs and projects to achieve quality outcomes for the residents and the environment of the Northern Beaches. The Business Unit delivers the strategic and operational management of:
- Bushland and biodiversity protection and restoration including threatened species and pest species management and the control of bush fire risk
- Catchment, waterway and coastal management including ecological, risk and restoration programs
- Strategic environmental systems & programs, climate change adaptation/resilience and corporate sustainability
- Environmental education, volunteering and engagement
- Development Engineering including subdivision works, development approvals, and certification of development works
- Stormwater asset maintenance, renewals and design and construction of new assets
- Floodplain risk planning and management

Our opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager-Development Engineering & Certification, the Development Engineer position supports the Development Engineering & Certification team in the Development Applications and Engineering Applications assessment.
The key focus areas of this role include:
- Assess development applications and provide conditions of consent relating to engineering matters (drainage, access, overland flow, geotechnical etc) to ensure compliance with Council’s policies and best practice
- Assess and determine applications made under relevant legislation for engineering works to Council’s infrastructure and private drainage to ensure public assets are adequately constructed and protected.
- Assist in the preparation of expert reports and if necessary provide evidence at hearings in the Land and Environment Court to defend Council’s determination in a clear, concise, and objective manner upholding Council’s values at all times.
- Provide technical support and advice to other departments and staff on engineering matters related to development proposals to drive a culture of teamwork and respect.
- Proactively identify opportunities and participate in the development and review of council policies, strategies and processes related to development engineering to deliver service improvements in accordance with community need and industry best practice.
- Train new and junior staff within the team to foster a positive culture and ensure a consistent approach to engineering assessment is applied across all applications.
- Attendance and or provision of written advice for DA pre lodgement meetings.
About you :
What you will bring to our team:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering that is eligible for accreditation with Engineers Australia or the Association of Professional Engineers Australia (note that current accreditation is not required).
- Current Class C (minimum) Driver’s Licence.
- Valid White Card (General Construction Induction Card).
- Demonstrated experience/skills in Development Engineering relevant to Local Government.
- Knowledge of Development Control Plans and understanding and ability to apply relevant legislation regulations/standards in urban development/construction.
- High-level communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with developers, consultants and regulatory authorities.
