Your impact
As an Auto Electrician at Newmont Tanami Operations, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing mobile and underground equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient production.
Working in one of Australia’s most remote and challenging mining environments, you will contribute directly to equipment availability, minimise downtime, and support Newmont’s commitment to zero harm and operational excellence.
As part of our team you will

Deliver safe, efficient auto electrical maintenance across underground and surface mobile equipment

Perform diagnostics, repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal fleet performance

Work on heavy mobile equipment including Sandvik DD, DL, DS, DB (421 & 422), Normet Charmec & Spraymec, and similar fleet

Conduct inspections, fault‑finding, and monitoring of equipment performance

Ensure all work is completed in line with Newmont policies, procedures, and statutory requirements

Apply risk management practices, including JHAs and safe work procedures prior to task execution

Accurately complete documentation, job cards, and maintenance records using SAP and related systems

Support breakdown response and planned maintenance activities in collaboration with maintenance planners and supervisors

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, reliability, and productivity

Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and workshop cleanliness

Provide guidance and on‑job training to apprentices where required

Collaborate with maintenance, operations and warehouse teams in a fast‑paced environment
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Australian‑recognised Auto Electrical trade qualification
-
Proven experience in underground mining maintenance (minimum 5 years highly regarded)

Strong exposure to mobile plant and heavy equipment environments

Experience with Sandvik underground equipment (essential) and Normet fleet (highly regarded)

Automotive Air Conditioning / Refrigeration licence (preferred)

Proficiency in SAP or similar maintenance management systems

Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word)

Current Australian manual driver’s licence

Forklift licence and additional tickets (dogging, rigging, working at heights) highly regarded

Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including 12‑hour shifts

Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands

High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and process compliance

Effective communication and teamwork skills across diverse stakeholder groups
Your work environment
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity at Newmont’s Tanami Gold Mine in Western Australia, working within a large-scale open pit operation on an 8/6 roster. Village accommodation is available for the ideal candidate.
You’ll join a supportive, site-based technical and operations team, gaining hands-on exposure to modern mining systems, equipment, and autonomous haulage technologies, in an environment focused on safety, performance, and continuous improvement.
