Macquarie University Health is seeking a skilled and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) to lead the clinical delivery of our respiratory service and drive best practice across bronchoscopy, endoscopy and advanced robotic-assisted procedures.
This is a rare opportunity to work within Australia's first and only fully integrated academic health sciences centre, where clinical practice, research and education come together to drive better health outcomes. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist 2, you will bring your advanced respiratory expertise to a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, taking a leading role in the clinical operation of the service and the stewardship of specialised equipment, including our ION robotic bronchoscopy platform.

About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory), you will take a leading clinical role in the day-to-day operation of the respiratory service, providing advanced, evidence-based nursing care while overseeing the management of scopes, the ION robotic bronchoscopy system and all associated consumables. Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, drawing on your specialist knowledge to deliver safe, patient-centred care.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the clinical delivery of the respiratory service, ensuring best practice standards are maintained across all patient care activities.
Providing advanced, holistic nursing care to patients with a range of respiratory conditions, including assessment, monitoring, treatment and education.
Overseeing the management, maintenance and readiness of scopes, the ION robotic bronchoscopy platform and all related consumables, ensuring correct setup, troubleshooting and post-procedure care.
Preparing, assisting and recovering patients undergoing bronchoscopy, endoscopy and robotic-assisted respiratory procedures, ensuring safety, comfort and dignity throughout the patient journey.
Providing clinical leadership and expert guidance to nursing staff, including mentoring and supporting the professional development of junior colleagues.
Collaborating with medical, allied health and academic teams to ensure coordinated, integrated care across the patient journey.
Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and evidence-based practice development within the respiratory service.

You are an experienced and confident respiratory nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, technology-rich clinical environment. You are comfortable overseeing specialised equipment and emerging technologies, committed to continuous learning and evidence-based practice, and dedicated to supporting those around you to deliver the highest standard of care.
Selection Criteria
Registered Nurse with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with no conditions or undertakings.
Extensive post-registration clinical experience in respiratory nursing, with demonstrated advanced clinical skills and knowledge.
Demonstrated experience with bronchoscopy, endoscopy or procedural respiratory nursing, including the management of scopes and specialised equipment (experience with, or willingness to develop competency in, robotic-assisted platforms such as the ION system).
Proven ability to provide clinical leadership, mentorship and education to nursing staff and students.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based practice and professional development.
Relevant post-graduate qualifications in respiratory nursing or a related specialty (or equivalent experience).
