About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Data Architect to lead a structured data discovery, documentation and assurance programme across the CM3 customer platform.
Working closely with Product Management, Engineering and IT teams, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the CM3 data estate, including data structures, relationships, workflows, integrations and governance processes. Your focus will be on capturing and organising critical platform knowledge, improving the visibility of data flows and dependencies, and creating a sustainable knowledge base that supports ongoing platform development, operational resilience and future business initiatives.
Supported by a highly engaged development team, you will work across a complex multi-tenant SaaS environment spanning relational and non-relational databases, application logic, APIs, event-driven architectures, reporting platforms and document repositories. You will translate technical discovery into practical artefacts including data models, data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, runbooks and supporting documentation that can be used confidently by engineering, product and operational teams.
This is a 12-month fixed-term position with the possibility of becoming permanent. While the initial focus will be on platform discovery, documentation and knowledge capture, the role is expected to evolve into a broader data and database leadership function. As the platform knowledge base matures, the role will contribute to ongoing database administration, platform optimisation, data governance initiatives, reporting and analytics requirements, and future data-related projects across the business.
Working with us, you will enjoy flexible working arrangements, social events, celebrations of staff milestones, fundraising and sustainability initiatives, fitness challenges, and other benefits of being part of Wesfarmers Industrial & Safety.
What you will deliver
- A verified inventory of the in-scope data estate, applications, interfaces, scheduled processes and dependencies.
- Version-controlled schema catalogues, physical and domain data models, relationship catalogues and a canonical customer model.
- End-to-end lineage and workflow-to-data mapping across our products.
- A validated customer-data dictionary and classification of operational, reference, transactional, audit, RBAC, reporting, staging, document and archive data.
- Reproducible profiling of data quality, customer identity, duplication, history, sensitive data and retention behaviour.
- A documented current-state RBAC and effective-access baseline, including privileged, shared, service and integration accounts.
- A version-controlled, restartable representative extraction process and record-level reconciliation framework.
- An evidence-backed findings and residual-unknown register, technical runbooks and an indexed knowledge repository.
- Practical knowledge transfer so nominated team members can locate, understand and reuse the core artefacts and procedures.
About you
You are a senior, hands-on data professional who enjoys bringing structure and clarity to complex systems and closing identified gaps in database documentation. You can move confidently between database internals, application behaviour, business workflows and clear technical documentation. You are methodical, evidence-led and comfortable owning a time-bound engagement with defined outcomes.
The strongest candidates will bring:
- Significant senior-level experience as a Data Architect, Database Architect, Senior DBA, Database Engineer or hands-on Data Platform Architect.
- Proven experience leading the discovery and documentation of complex enterprise data platforms requiring focused database discovery and documentation.
- Deep hands-on expertise in MySQL 8 / AWS Aurora, including metadata analysis, query performance, backup and recovery, replication and read replicas.
- Strong logical and physical data-modelling skills, including reverse-engineering formal and application-enforced relationships.
- Advanced SQL and scripting capability for metadata extraction, profiling, controlled extraction, automation and reconciliation.
- Experience producing data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, classifications, quality findings, runbooks and maintainable technical repositories.
- Experience tracing data across applications, APIs, integrations, scheduled jobs, event streams, reporting platforms and document stores.
- A sound understanding of RBAC, effective permissions, privileged access, sensitive-data controls and secure data handling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to facilitate focused discovery and validation sessions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- The autonomy, attention to detail and judgement required to manage dependencies, document uncertainty and deliver against evidence-based acceptance criteria.
Desirable experience
- MongoDB, DynamoDB, OpenSearch and Amazon S3.
- Kafka, Debezium, ksqlDB or comparable event-stream and change-data-capture technologies.
- Reporting databases, analytical schemas, Power BI data feeds and governed reporting extracts.
- PHP, Laravel, Zend, Node.js/NestJS, GraphQL and REST APIs, sufficient to trace application-enforced data relationships and rules.
- Production database administration, performance tuning, migration, integration, archival or data-portability projects.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, contractor-management, compliance or document-processing platforms.
