Account Manager (Paid Media)
Brisbane CBD | Hybrid or Remote (Australia) | Full-Time
You Understand The Work. That's Why Clients Trust You.
Most agencies hire Account Managers who can manage relationships but can't confidently challenge or interpret what's happening in the marketing.
We're not doing that.
We're looking for an Account Manager with strong Google Ads knowledge who can own client relationships while understanding the work well enough to lead meaningful conversations internally and externally.
You won't be hired to sit in Google Ads all day building campaigns.
We have media buyers for that.
Your job is to own the client relationship, understand their business, guide the strategy, communicate clearly and make sure the right people are accountable for the right work.
But to do that properly, you need real depth in Google Ads.
Deep enough to review performance before a client call.
Deep enough to understand what's driving results.
Deep enough to ask a media buyer the right questions, challenge an explanation when something doesn't stack up and help coach the team towards better strategic thinking.
You don't need to be the person making bid adjustments.
You do need to know what good looks like.
What You Need To Know, And What You Don'tYour Depth Is Google Ads
Google Ads should be one of your strongest areas of expertise.
You've worked with real accounts. You've developed strategy, diagnosed performance issues and understand what drives results.
You understand campaign structure, keywords, search intent, budgets, bidding, conversion tracking and attribution.
You can look at performance and form your own view.
When a media buyer explains why performance dropped, you know enough to ask the right follow-up questions. You can tell the difference between a genuine diagnosis and a comfortable explanation.
You'll work closely with our media buyers, helping review strategy, identify opportunities and raise the level of thinking across the team.
Your Fluency Is The Wider Funnel
You don't need to be the expert in everything.
But you need to understand enough about the wider marketing ecosystem to know when the problem isn't the ad account.
Landing pages.
Offers.
Creative.
Conversion tracking.
Attribution.
SEO.
Email and follow-up.
You should be able to spot when one of these areas is affecting performance and know which specialist needs to be involved.
That's the whole point.
Clients get one person who understands their business and understands enough about the work to lead the right conversations.
What You'll Actually DoOwn Your Clients
You'll be the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients.
You'll:
- Build strong, trusted and long-term client relationships
- Lead regular client meetings, strategy calls and performance reviews
- Understand each client's business, goals, challenges and priorities
- Keep clients informed without waiting for them to chase you
- Proactively follow up on questions, requests, approvals and outstanding actions
- Manage expectations around priorities, timelines and results
- Handle difficult conversations honestly and professionally
- Identify risks and client concerns early
- Help retain and grow your portfolio through strong communication and strategic guidance
This is an ownership role.
Your clients should know you're across their business.
Turn Performance Into Decisions
You're not there to read a report to the client.
You're there to help them understand what the numbers mean and what they should do next.
You'll:
- Review performance before client meetings
- Work with media buyers and specialists to understand what's driving results
- Use your Google Ads knowledge to ask questions and challenge assumptions where needed
- Identify opportunities and risks across the account
- Translate campaign performance into clear business decisions and recommendations
- Present recommendations in language clients can understand and act on
- Make sure strategy conversations lead to clear next steps
You should be able to explain a performance drop to a business owner without hiding behind jargon.
And when something isn't working, you should be comfortable saying so.
Look Beyond The Ad Account
Sometimes the problem isn't the campaign.
It's the landing page.
The offer.
The tracking.
The website.
The follow-up process.
The market.
You need to be able to spot that.
You'll look at the wider picture, raise the issue and bring in the right people to help solve it.
We don't need you to personally fix everything.
We need you to understand enough to know where to look.
Help Lead The Performance Conversation
You'll work closely with our media buyers and broader performance team.
Your role isn't to micromanage campaign execution.
It's to bring another level of strategic thinking and accountability.
You'll:
- Review strategy and performance with the team
- Ask questions when results or explanations don't make sense
- Help identify opportunities that may otherwise be missed
- Challenge assumptions constructively
- Ensure client priorities are clearly understood by the delivery team
- Help connect client business goals with campaign strategy
- Share your Google Ads experience to help coach and develop the team's thinking
- Ensure the team is focused on the actions most likely to move the client's business forward
Keep The Work Moving
Good strategy means nothing if nobody follows through.
You'll coordinate with media buyers, SEO specialists, creatives, developers and leadership to make sure agreed actions happen.
You'll:
- Clearly brief internal teams on client priorities
- Make sure agreed actions have an owner and a deadline
- Follow up before things become overdue
- Keep clients updated on progress
- Raise roadblocks early
- Ensure important work doesn't fall through the cracks
- Bring the right specialists into the conversation when needed
This Role Is For You If
- You've got 3+ years of experience managing client relationships in an agency or similar environment
- You have strong, practical Google Ads experience from working on real accounts
- You've developed or contributed meaningfully to Google Ads strategy, not just made basic optimisations
- You understand campaign structure, keywords, search intent, budgets, bidding, conversion tracking and attribution
- You can confidently review campaign performance and form your own view
- You can hold your own in a conversation with an experienced media buyer
- You're comfortable asking questions and constructively challenging an explanation when something doesn't add up
- You have a solid understanding of Meta Ads and broader paid media
- You understand how landing pages, offers, tracking and follow-up affect campaign results
- You can explain complex performance issues to a business owner without hiding behind jargon
- You genuinely enjoy building client relationships and leading conversations
- You know how to say "that's not working" while maintaining trust
- You follow up, every time, without being asked
- You're highly organised and can manage multiple clients and priorities
- You take ownership when something goes wrong and focus on finding the fix
Bonus Points
- Experience coaching or mentoring other marketers
- HubSpot or GoHighLevel experience
- SEO or CRO experience
- Email, CRM or lifecycle marketing knowledge
- Experience with lead generation or eCommerce clients
- Experience coordinating designers, developers and other specialists
- Experience presenting strategy and performance recommendations to business owners
This Role Isn't For You If
You want to spend your day building and optimising campaigns yourself.
You'll be reviewing, directing and contributing to strategy, but you won't be the person responsible for day-to-day campaign execution.
We have media buyers for that.
This role is about taking your marketing knowledge and using it to become a stronger client leader.
You also won't enjoy this role if you'd rather relay messages than form a view.
We need someone who can look at the information, ask questions, make a judgement and confidently communicate what they think.
Backed by the numbers, of course.
Who You Are
You take ownership.
You communicate clearly.
You follow up.
You don't wait for clients or teammates to chase you.
You care about the quality of the work, even when you aren't personally the one executing it.
You know that good account management isn't just keeping clients happy.
It's being honest.
Managing expectations.
Asking the hard questions.
Keeping people accountable.
And helping clients make better decisions.
You don't look for excuses when something goes wrong.
You look for the problem and help find the solution.
