Provide collaborative, person-centred and recovery-orientated specialist mental health services to youth in custody.

The Opportunity:
The Senior Mental Health Clinician is a key position within the Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS). FYMHS provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.
Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a committed Senior Mental Health Clinician to provide clinical leadership, supervision, and governance to a multidisciplinary team supporting young people in custody, with a focus on recovery-oriented care. This role delivers comprehensive mental health assessments and relationally informed psychological case management and interventions.

About the Role:
The Senior Mental Health Clinician holds a client case load and completes clinical assessments, formulations and develops/delivers appropriate evidence based mental health treatment and care planning.
The role is embedded within Custodial FYMHS team and is based at the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct. When required to travel to other service locations a workplace vehicle and travel time is included within working hours.
What You'll Do:
Conduct mental health assessments, formulate treatment plans, and provide psychological treatment, crisis intervention, family support, and systems containment for young people in need of immediate care and their families.
Deliver clinical care that aligns with PYMHWS client-focused, accessible, and evidence-based standards, ensuring it is culturally safe, trauma-informed, and responsive to the diverse needs of all young people and families, including those from LGBTQI+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and multicultural and multifaith diverse populations.
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with key agencies, community groups, and service providers through consultation, liaison, and collaborative projects, including but not limited to AOD services, Youth Justice, and primary care providers.
Engage in professional development through FYMHS-specific and broader young mental health training initiatives.
FYMHS Professional Development, Support & Wellbeing
Specialist Forensic Mental health and Education program training provided.
Support to participate in research, service evaluation and quality improvement projects
Access to specialist education in youth forensic mental health, neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma-informed care, personality disorder, formulation and risk assessment.
Regular opportunities to learn alongside experienced psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, art therapists and lived experience practitioners.

About You:
A mental health clinician experienced in, and passionate about, early intervention and evidence based care for young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties including personality disorder.
✔️ Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 4 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and Psychologist Grade 3
✔️ Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
✔️ Minimum 5 years’ experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health and a demonstrated ability to supervise mental health clinicians, and function both autonomously and collaboratively with other clinical and organisational leaders
✔️ A sound knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant community based forensic services
✔️ Motivated by youth-focused, inclusive, and recovery-oriented care
