Owner Inspections is a Sydney property inspection company. We do not just use business software, we build it. Our whole operation runs on a platform we wrote in-house: CRM, quoting and payments, inspections and reporting, phone and email, marketing automation, and a partner referral program, all off one job lifecycle. We are hiring one developer to take it forward with us.
Please read the requirements before applying. This is a specific role and we are going to be strict about it. We would rather leave the seat empty than fill it with someone who is learning business software for the first time on our production system.
About the platform
A TypeScript monorepo that runs the full job lifecycle: enquiry, quote, payment, scheduling, inspection, report, delivery and follow up. Around that sit a partner referral program with commissions and payouts, marketing automation (campaigns, sequences, audiences), an in-CRM phone system, transactional and sales email, an inspector mobile app, and an AI layer that reads and enriches customer data. Real money, real customer records, real phone calls. When it breaks, the business stops.
You must have all of the following. Please do not apply otherwise.
1. At least 3 years of commercial experience as a developer, employed and shipping to production. Study, bootcamps and personal projects do not count towards this.
2. You have built features inside a CRM, ERP, booking, job management or field service system. That can be a commercial product (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Dynamics, ServiceM8, Simpro, Tradify, AroFlo or similar) or a custom internal system. Having used one as an end user does not count. Name the system and what you built in it.
3. Strong TypeScript on both sides. You have shipped a production React front end AND a production Node back end, not one or the other.
4. You own your own database work. You have designed relational schemas in Postgres or MySQL, written and shipped the migrations, and can explain why a query is slow and what index fixes it. We have no DBA.
5. You have integrated third party APIs in production and dealt with the ugly parts: OAuth, webhooks, retries, idempotency, rate limits, and what to do when the other end fails.
6. You have shipped a feature that calls an LLM API (OpenAI, Anthropic or similar) in a real product, and can talk about prompting, structured output, cost, latency, and where the model gets it wrong. Using ChatGPT to help write your code is not what we mean here.
7. You can work in the office on the Northern Beaches. This is not a remote or hybrid-from-anywhere role.

Strongly preferred
- Money paths: payments, invoicing, refunds, commissions, Stripe
- Telephony or messaging: Twilio voice and SMS, email deliverability, SES
- AWS: ECS, CDK or Terraform, CloudWatch, a CI/CD pipeline you actually maintained
- Permissions and multi-tenancy: role based access, row level security
- Queues and scheduled work: BullMQ, SQS, cron style jobs
- React Native or Expo
- Property, trades, real estate or field services industry experience
What you will actually do
- Take a business problem, not a ticket with the answer already in it, ask the right questions, decide what to build, and ship it
- Feature work across the stack: Next.js (React 19) front end, Hono API, Postgres
- CRM core: contacts, companies, leads, jobs, quotes, invoices, payments, commissions and payouts
- Automations: campaigns, sequences and customer journeys on BullMQ and Redis
- Integrations: Stripe, Twilio voice and SMS, Clerk auth, AWS SES, Google Workspace APIs, mapping and address lookup
- AI features in the product: LLM-backed extraction, enrichment and assistants
- Schema design and migrations in Drizzle, with Postgres row level security
- The Expo / React Native app our inspectors use in the field
- Deployment and monitoring on AWS (ECS, CDK, CodePipeline)
Our stack
TypeScript everywhere. pnpm and Turborepo monorepo, Next.js 16, React 19, Hono, Drizzle ORM, Postgres 18, Redis and BullMQ, Biome, Vitest, Docker, AWS CDK, Expo and React Native, Clerk, Stripe, Twilio, OpenAI and Anthropic APIs. You do not need every one of these on day one, but you should be able to read that list and know roughly what each thing is for.
Probably not a fit if
- Your commercial experience is front end only, or back end only
- Your production work has mostly been WordPress, Wix, Shopify themes or no-code builders
- You have only done short agency projects and never lived with a system you built
- You need someone to break work down into tickets for you
The role
- Full time, permanent, $70,000 - $80,000 per year
- In the office on the Northern Beaches, Sydney. We want someone local so you are in with the team.
- Small team, direct access to the founder, decisions made the same day
- You will own real parts of the product and see your work used by the business straight away
