Position Description

Responsible for supporting daily kitchen production and service by preparing and cooking food items, assisting with ingredient and product preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, operating kitchen equipment safely, and following Golden Bakery food safety, allergen, and quality procedures to ensure consistent, safe, and timely output.

Duties and Responsibilities (Kitchen Hand)

Including, but not limited to:

Prepare morning stock such as fried foods, bacon and eggs, and other breakfast items.
Prepare pre-made goods including burgers, toasties, fruit salad, salad bowls and similar items.
Prepare platters for customer catering orders.
Prepare made-to-order food items in line with customer requests and Golden Bakery procedures.
Assist in cooking and frying components for bakery products.
Operate commercial kitchen equipment (including fryers, grills, ovens, and toasters) safely and efficiently.
Work safely with sharp knives and other kitchen tools.
Follow food safety standards to ensure all food is cooked, handled, and stored correctly.
Be mindful of and follow all procedures for customers’ special dietary requirements, food allergies and intolerances, including preventing cross-contamination.
Wash, peel, chop and prepare vegetables, fruit and other ingredients as directed.
Maintain stock of commonly used ingredients by preparing them in advance.
Assist in preparing ready-to-sell retail items.
Ensure all products are presented and packaged according to Golden Bakery’s quality and presentation standards.
Rotate, label and date ingredients and finished products (e.g. first in, first out) to maintain freshness and minimise waste.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of all kitchen areas.
Wash, dry and correctly store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Clean cooking surfaces, workbenches, and kitchen tools after use.
Ensure waste is disposed of properly and manage recycling in accordance with Golden Bakery procedures.
Follow personal hygiene and uniform standards appropriate for a food-handling role (including regular handwashing, clean clothing and minimal jewellery).
Follow all health, safety and food hygiene guidelines at all times.
Use equipment, chemicals and cleaning products safely and as instructed, including safe manual-handling practices.
Report hazards, incidents, injuries, near misses and damaged equipment to the manager or supervisor without delay.
Assist other kitchen and bakery staff as required to support smooth service.
Take reasonable care to identify and manage allergen risks and immediately inform a supervisor if unsure about any special dietary requirement.
Promptly report any food safety concern, suspected contamination, allergen issue or equipment malfunction to the manager or supervisor.

General Duties and Responsibilities (All Retail Staff)

All retail employees are required to:

Provide friendly, efficient customer service and create a welcoming experience for all customers, including regulars.
Take accurate orders, answer product questions, and suggest additional items where appropriate.
Use Square POS correctly for all transactions and enter orders accurately.
Handle customer complaints professionally and escalate to a supervisor/manager when required.
Fulfil pickup and catering orders accurately, neatly, and on time (including packing and platter preparation where applicable).
Maintain displays and service areas so they are stocked, tidy, and visually appealing.
Communicate with the kitchen/production team about stock levels, product availability, and timing for large orders.
Maintain cleanliness of customer-facing areas and workstations (counter, salad bar, seating areas) in line with cleaning schedules.
Complete cash handling tasks accurately (including daily cash counts where rostered) and report discrepancies immediately.
Follow food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures at all times, including preventing cross-contamination and escalating allergen concerns.
Work safely, including correct manual handling and safe use of equipment, and report hazards, incidents, injuries, or damaged equipment promptly.
Support team workflow by assisting others during busy periods and completing other reasonable duties as directed.
Prepare coffee/beverages to standard when trained and rostered.
