You’ll be joining a motivated and high-performing analytics team who:

Have a defined remit to develop and deliver high-value analytics use cases for DCS and its leaders
-
Are trusted advisors to the executive leadership team, with proven strategic and analytical expertise and a track record of delivering impactful budget, people and regulatory outcomes for the Department

Have an established reputation, strong executive presence and play a key role in influencing business decisions and direction through analytics
-
Own, maintain and develop several critical reporting solutions for the Department and its external partner agencies
-
Strive to create value and drive business outcomes through every data point, insight and solution we produce
Your responsibilities will be to:
-
Define and lead the production of reports, visualisations and recommendations in the most appropriate format for the target audience to ensure clarity and effectively address business problems
-
Extract and transform data from various data sources, build semantic models, set up data warehouses and design data systems, assuming technical responsibility for all the stages of development, to align with best practice methodologies and industry recognised standards

Identify, interpret and analyse data using linking and statistical techniques to answer business problems, identify trends and/or patterns in complex data sets and to create inference or insight

Raise, scope and implement new process improvement opportunities to support continuous improvement and business outcomes

Provide subject matter expertise and specialist advice, and recommend and implement improvements, to enhance the efficiency and reliability of data products and services and to ensure compliance with security and application development standards

Oversee the operational support for BI solutions, including monitoring, data refresh, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and defect resolution, to ensure data accuracy and service reliability

Lead business requirement gathering and stakeholder management for new and existing analytics solutions, and maintain solution and technical design documentation to support compliance and future reporting development

Collaborate with and provide guidance to junior developers, including overseeing their technical builds, to facilitate best practice
We’d love to hear from you if you…

Have demonstrated, real-work experience leading data visualisation, data science or advanced analytics projects.

Have experience with designing, developing and deploying reporting solutions in Power BI, Tableau, QLIK or similar while ensuring performance, interpretability, and explainability.

Have deep understanding of best practices in analytics, data governance, and data reporting applications.
-
Have demonstrated experience mentoring junior team members and working in cross-functional teams, including data engineers, analysts, and business leaders.

Are experienced in stakeholder management, running stakeholder workshops, data storytelling and presenting analytical insights in a compelling and impactful way.
-
Can distil complex technical challenges into simple, achievable solutions and milestones.
-
Approach every challenge with an open and solution-orientated mindset.
-
Have tertiary qualifications in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Econometrics or a related field.
…and can demonstrate the following technical skills and qualifications:

Advanced expertise in Power BI for data visualisation and reporting.

Enhanced familiarity working with Microsoft Fabric and cloud-based data platforms.

Enhanced familiarity with version control and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
-
Intermediate expertise in SQL (advanced queries, performance tuning and functions).
-
Intermediate expertise in Tableau and/or QLIK for data visualisation and reporting.
-
Excellent understanding of data modelling and data visualisation principles.
-
Familiarity with SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) and working with SAP data structures.
-
Strong grasp of data governance, data quality, and security best practices.
