Who we are
At headspace Syndal, we support young people aged 12–25 and their families by providing early intervention for mental health and wellbeing. We bring together GPs, mental health clinicians, alcohol and other drug support, and vocational and educational services in one welcoming place, making it easier for young people to get the right help when they need it.

About the role
We're looking for an Access Clinician to join our friendly, dynamic team. Whether you're early in your career and keen to build your mental health skills, or you're an experienced clinician looking for a role with greater autonomy and opportunities to support others, we'd love to hear from you.
In this role, you'll often be the first point of contact for young people and families reaching out for support. You'll conduct phone and face-to-face intake appointments, complete brief biopsychosocial and risk assessments, and work with the team to develop treatment plans and connect young people with the services that best meet their needs.
Depending on demand, you'll also have opportunities to provide single-session and ongoing therapeutic support.
You'll work alongside a passionate multidisciplinary team and receive regular supervision, professional development, and plenty of opportunities to continue growing your skills.
What you'll be doing

Welcome and engage young people and families accessing the service.

Complete intake, screening, biopsychosocial, and risk assessments.

Work collaboratively to coordinate care pathways and make appropriate referrals.

Provide single session and ongoing counselling where appropriate.

Support young people with a broad range of mental health presentations, considering the impact of trauma, education, employment, social circumstances, and alcohol and other drug use.

Build positive relationships with schools, community services, and other organisations to support coordinated care.
What we're looking for
You might be the right fit if you have:
-
Qualifications in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or another relevant discipline, with the appropriate professional registration or eligibility for membership.

Experience—or a strong interest and working knowledge —in working with adolescents and young adults experiencing mental health challenges.
-
Confidence in engaging young people and families from diverse backgrounds.
-
Skills in assessment, risk management, and collaborative care planning (or a willingness to develop these with support).

A team-focused approach and excellent communication skills.
-
A genuine passion for supporting young people to improve their wellbeing and achieve their goals.
About you
You'll bring:

A tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology, along with the appropriate professional registration or membership (or eligibility), including:
-
Registration with the Psychology/Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA), or
-
Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Experience, or a strong awareness/foundation, in providing mental health assessment and therapeutic support to adolescents and young adults, and their families.
-
A working understanding of the many factors that can influence a young person's mental health, including trauma, alcohol and other drug use, education, employment and social circumstances.

A client-centred, family inclusive approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

A current Victorian Driver Licence.

A current Working with Children Check and willingness to complete the required background checks.

Australian work rights.

Current Influenza vaccination.
