Student Integrity sits within the Student Engagement and Education Management (SEEM) division in the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Portfolio, which contributes to the University's strategic objective to provide an excellent educational experience for its students through the delivery of accessible and supportive administrative functions throughout the student lifecycle. The Student Integrity team administers policies and legislation in relation to appeals, academic integrity, and student conduct, managing complex and sensitive student matters, including conduct involving allegations of gender-based violence.
The Deputy Manager, Student Conduct and Appeals, supports the operational delivery of services across these areas, working closely with the Manager to ensure effective, consistent, and trauma-informed processes. This includes contributing to compliance with University legislation and national regulatory requirements, supporting statutory reporting obligations, and assisting with the management of appeals, academic integrity and reports of student (mis)conduct to ensure they are managed fairly, sensitively, and in accordance with policy and legislation. The role provides advice to stakeholders, contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, and supports the day-to-day coordination of team activities to deliver high-quality services and contribute to safety and wellbeing by promoting of a culture of integrity and accountability.
The successful candidate will manage, investigate and resolve complex and sensitive cases of student conduct, including those relating to gender-based violence, applying sound judgement, discretion, and a strong understanding of relevant policy, legislative frameworks, and trauma-informed approaches.
We are seeking a team leader with a demonstrated background in governance, compliance, and complex case management within a higher education or similar regulatory environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- experience in policy, legal compliance, investigations, complaint-handling and appeals management.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation and policy frameworks in day-to-day operations and casework.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams, fostering a culture of service excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and support the resolution of sensitive matters.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices when managing (mis)conduct and complex behavioural issues.
- Experience in case handling of gender-based violence matters, including contributing to risk assessment, management and ongoing monitoring.
- A sound understanding of the impacts of vicarious trauma, with a proactive approach to supporting staff wellbeing through regular engagement and early intervention.
Experience conducting investigations in a regulatory or tertiary environment, and/or a Certificate IV in Government Investigations, will be highly regarded.
