About Us:
RATP Dev is a subsidiary of the RATP Group, a global leader in high-capacity urban rail and the world’s third largest public transport operator.
Our 25,000 people design, operate, maintain and modernise urban and interurban transport networks across more than 100 cities in 17 countries, delivering tailored mobility solutions that respond to each community’s environmental, social, and economic needs.
We build, deliver and commit to the best of public transport - every day, everywhere, for everybody - making it the natural choice for cities and passengers.
We are currently seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join TransitLinX (a John Holland and RATP Dev Joint Venture) based in Melbourne on the Suburban Rail Loop project.
About the Role:
The Senior Data Engineer plays a key role in delivering a strategic Enterprise Data Platform as a core pillar of TransitLinX’s digital transformation. Supporting both the Construction and future Operations phases of the project, you will be instrumental in operating, evolving, and industrialising our newly built Data Lake, supporting business data consumers, and establishing Data Governance foundations.
Reporting to the Enterprise Systems & Innovation Manager, this role offers a strong growth opportunity for a hands-on technical professional who wants to contribute to building and scaling a Data Lake from the ground up within a structured, international, and high-impact environment. As our team is growing, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape our future ways of working. In this role, you will:
-
Design, Build & Run: Develop and maintain robust data ingestion and transformation pipelines on AWS and Snowflake, implementing staging, clean, and datamart data layers.
-
Industrialise & Automate: Drive the continuous improvement, automation, and scalability of the platform, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident resolution.
-
Support Data Consumers: Act as the primary technical point of contact for Data Lake users (BI, reporting, analytics, and project teams), analysing requirements to publish curated datasets, views, and data models.
-
Bridge Systems & Architecture: Contribute to the broader Data Architecture vision and integrate the Data Lake with enterprise systems (such as asset management, maintenance, ticketing, and external platforms).
-
Champion Emerging Tech: Identify opportunities where modern data practices, automation, GenAI, or LLM-based solutions can improve productivity and data accessibility.
-
Collaborate Internationally: Partner with system integrators and coordinate closely with TransitLinX partners and RATP Dev HQ in France to align with global standards and best practices.
-
Operational Flexibility: As a growing team, support adjacent business needs when required (such as contributing to dashboards, ad-hoc data analysis, or coordinating external partners)—while keeping your primary focus on platform engineering.
About You:
You are an autonomous, structured, and delivery-focused data professional with a strong architecture mindset. You have the ability to take a step back to assess solutions, while remaining comfortable interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are excited by the opportunity to build, structure, and scale a platform over time within a growing team. You will bring:
-
Core Experience: Approximately 5–7 years of experience in Data Engineering or a similar mid-to-senior technical role.
-
Technical Stack: Strong, hands-on expertise with Python, SQL, and Snowflake.
-
Cloud & Orchestration: Solid experience operating AWS-based data platforms utilizing tools like Amazon MWAA (Apache Airflow) and dbt Core.
-
Data Architecture: A deep understanding of ELT/ETL pipelines, Data Lake architectures, and data governance/traceability principles.
-
AI & Innovation (Strong Advantage): Familiarity with GenAI, LLMs, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or AI-enabled data platforms.
-
Communication: Fluency in English with strong stakeholder management skills.
-
Domain Knowledge (Desirable): Knowledge of Asset Management systems (e.g., Maximo, maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management).
-
Experience working within the transport, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
-
Familiarity with construction and/or operations data.
