About Lawren Legal
Lawren Legal is a fast-growing, modern and client-focused law firm based in Melbourne.
We are a boutique firm with a broad and interesting practice, acting for individuals, families, business owners, property developers, investors and small to medium enterprises. Our work includes commercial litigation, business and property disputes, commercial law, property and leasing matters, family and succession matters, and cross-border Australia–China legal work.
We are proud to be both commercially focused and community minded. Our clients come to us because they want practical advice, clear communication and lawyers who genuinely care about solving their problems.
As our litigation and commercial practice continues to grow, we are looking for a motivated Litigation Solicitor to join our friendly team. This role may suit a newly admitted solicitor, junior solicitor or early-career lawyer who wants to build strong litigation, legal research and drafting skills in a supportive boutique firm environment.
Why join us?
This is a great opportunity for a solicitor who enjoys research, analysis, problem solving and careful drafting.
At Lawren Legal, you will work closely with experienced practitioners and be exposed to real litigation strategy, client management, court work, negotiation and commercial drafting. You will receive guidance and support, while also being encouraged to take ownership of your work as your experience grows.
We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the firm, develop sound legal judgement, and be part of a professional but approachable workplace.
About the role
In this role, you will work on a broad range of civil and commercial litigation matters. You will assist with legal research, preparing advice, drafting correspondence and court documents, briefing counsel, communicating with clients, and helping clients resolve disputes in a practical and strategic way.
The role will also include some contract and agreement drafting, including commercial contracts, agreements, leases, deeds and other commercial documents. This makes the position suitable for someone who wants to develop both litigation skills and broader commercial drafting capability.
Your work may include:
· commercial and contractual disputes;
· property, leasing and business disputes;
· debt recovery and enforcement matters;
· shareholder, partnership or business-related disputes;
· urgent applications and interlocutory matters;
· settlement negotiations and mediations;
· legal research and preparation of advice;
· contract, agreement and deed drafting;
· general civil litigation and commercial law support.
You will not be expected to work in isolation. We value collaboration, clear communication and practical support. At the same time, we welcome candidates who are curious, organised and keen to learn.
Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
· conducting legal research and preparing clear, practical research notes;
· assisting with litigation strategy and case preparation;
· preparing letters of advice, letters of demand, pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, submissions and court documents;
· drafting and reviewing contracts, agreements, deeds and settlement documents;
· taking instructions and communicating with clients in a clear and professional manner;
· liaising with barristers, experts, courts, opposing solicitors and other parties;
· preparing briefs to counsel and assisting counsel where required;
· attending directions hearings, mediations, conferences and court appearances where appropriate;
· assisting with settlement negotiations and helping clients understand their commercial options;
· maintaining accurate file notes, deadlines and matter records;
· working collaboratively with partners, solicitors, clerks and support staff.
About you
We would like to hear from you if you are a practical, reliable and client-focused solicitor who enjoys legal research, careful drafting and problem solving.
Ideally, you will have:
· admission to practise in Australia;
· a current Victorian practising certificate, or eligibility to obtain one;
· 0 to 5 years’ post-admission experience;
· an interest in civil litigation, commercial litigation and dispute resolution;
· strong legal research, analytical and written communication skills;
· careful attention to detail and a willingness to develop high-quality drafting habits;
· confidence, or the willingness to develop confidence, in dealing with clients and managing deadlines;
· a practical and commercial approach to problem solving;
· the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
· a friendly, professional and respectful manner.
Previous litigation experience will be highly regarded, but we are also open to strong early-career candidates who can demonstrate excellent research ability, sound judgement and a genuine interest in litigation.
Mandarin Chinese language skills will be highly regarded, but are not essential.
