About the role
We have an opportunity for a Senior Application Developer to be part of our MobiPol team, Technology & Communication Services Command. The Senior Application Developer guides other application developers and leads in the creation of large or complex applications that facilitate the achievement of business outcomes through the use of process and technology.

The desirable candidate will be a Senior Application Developer with the capability to design, develop, and deliver secure, mission-critical mobile and enterprise applications that support the operational objectives of the NSW Police Force. The role contributes to the delivery of reliable, scalable, and government-grade digital solutions by applying secure software engineering practices, providing technical leadership, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with NSW Government security, privacy, and technology standards. The position also drives best practice in mobile application architecture, secure coding, and DevSecOps. t, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and improved public safety.
Key Accountabilities

Lead the development and delivery of secure mobile applications (iOS, Android, and cross-platform) for high-risk, mission-critical environments

Design and implement solutions that comply with government security standards, privacy requirements, and data protection obligations.

Oversee the full software development lifecycle, embedding securityby- design, DevSecOps, and continuous improvement practices.

Implement secure authentication and authorisation mechanisms (e.g., MFA, biometrics, identity platforms)
-
Conduct and oversee secure code reviews, penetration testing support, and vulnerability remediation.

Mentor developers on secure coding practices and mobile app security frameworks
-
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, particularly those impacting security, performance, and reliability.

Lead technical design and architecture decisions for secure mobile platforms, ensuring scalability, resilience, maintainability,
Technical Skills & Experience
-
Proven experience developing secure mobile applications in enterprise or government environments.
-
Experience with cloud-native mobile application architectures and secure cloud environments (Azure preferred).

Strong knowledge of mobile security principles, including:
-
Data encryption (at rest and in transit)
-
Secure storage (Keychain/Keystore)
-
API security (OAuth2, OpenID Connect)
-
Mobile threat mitigation (OWASP Mobile Top 1
-
Experience with mobile frameworks (Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, React Native)
-
Experience implementing identity and access management (IAM) and secure authentication flows.

Strong understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated security testing.

Ability to design scalable, resilient, and high-performance mobile solutions.
