Purpose of the Role
The Sales and Marketing Manager is responsible for planning, organising, directing, controlling and coordinating all regional B2B sales and marketing activities across the Australian and New Zealand markets. Based in the Sydney office, the role develops and implements regional sales and marketing strategies, sets performance targets, drives brand growth and market expansion, and manages relationships with key retail and wholesale partners throughout Australia and New Zealand. The position also identifies and cultivates strategic business partnerships across multiple territories to enhance market presence, strengthen customer retention, and support long-term business growth. This role will also manage direct reports to ensure the team achieve organisational objectives and sustainable growth.
Key responsibilities
The Sales and Marketing Manager will:
- Plan, direct and implement comprehensive sales and marketing strategies for Australia and New Zealand, including setting sales targets, customer acquisition goals and retention objectives to maximise sales and customer loyalty.
- Organise and control sales activities by defining product mix, geographical sales territories, customer service standards and distribution policies for the region.
- Direct the development and implementation of sales and marketing strategies and campaigns to promote Nelson Jewellery to targeted trade partners and selected consumer channels.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen and reinforce the brand image and brand loyalty in Australia and New Zealand, ensuring consistent positioning across all touch points and trade marketing materials.
- Build, maintain and deepen senior‑level relationships with key jewellery retailers, distributors and buying groups, including negotiation of commercial terms, joint marketing plans and long‑term collaboration agreements.
- Provide strategic market feedback to global management and design teams on trends, customer preferences and competitive activity in Australia and New Zealand to inform product development, marketing and merchandising decisions.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity, and identify potential areas for growth
- Represent Nelson Jewellery at major regional and international trade exhibitions, roadshows and industry events, including planning and leading the company’s presence, presentations and follow‑up sales activities.
- Oversee the regional sales pipeline, forecasting, budgeting and reporting, and present performance updates and strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Collaborate closely with Nelson Jewellery’s headquarter and regional teams in Singapore and Malaysia to design and execute cross-border sales and marketing initiatives
- Coordinate closely with Nelson Jewellery’s production, design, logistics and after‑sales teams in Hong Kong and other locations to ensure timely delivery, quality control and exceptional service for Australian and New Zealand clients.
- Lead, coach and develop any local sales, marketing or support staff within the region, including performance management, delegation and building a high‑performing, collaborative team culture.
- Prepare regular reports on sales activities, client feedback, and market opportunities for management review.
Essential selection criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
- A minimum of 8–10 years’ full-time experience in sales and marketing roles, including at least 2–3 years in a Regional Sales Manager or Business Development Manager position with strategic responsibility in the fine-jewellery industry.
- Proven experience planning, organising, directing, controlling and coordinating sales and marketing activities within an organisation, including setting and achieving sales and profit targets.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies, promotional campaigns and brand-building initiatives in the jewellery, or closely related high-value product sector.
- Experience managing the Australia and New Zealand market, including regular client visits, trade events and market development activities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple regional teams, including working with colleagues in Asia to support client development, cross-border sales activity and coordinated market expansion initiatives.
- Proven ability to lead and influence others, including coaching, mentoring, delegating and managing performance of direct reports or external representatives.
- Strong commercial acumen, negotiation and decision-making skills, including ability to structure commercial terms, manage budgets and deliver sustainable revenue growth.
- Excellent communication skills, with high-level written and spoken English, Cantonese and Mandarin and the ability to present credibly to senior clients, buying groups and internal executives.
- High degree of self-management, time management and resilience, with the ability to operate autonomously, manage extensive travel across Australia and New Zealand, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s licence and full ability and willingness to undertake frequent interstate and international business travel.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working for or with a fine jewellery manufacturer or brand headquartered in Asia, coordinating with offshore production and design teams.
- Established network with jewellery retailers, distributors or buying groups in Australia and/or New Zealand.
- Exposure to regional business collaboration involving Singapore, Malaysia or other Asian markets relevant to client expansion or sourcing strategies.
