The Mallee Family Care Community Legal Centre (MFCCLC) is seeking an experienced and committed Principal Solicitor to join its dynamic Legal Team, supporting our commitment to access to justice, social justice and human rights. The MFCCLC serves the Northern and Southern Mallee of Victoria, South-West New South Wales and Far West New South Wales.
The MFCCLC NSW program provides free legal information, advice and casework to people living in Broken Hill LGA, Central Darling LGA and the Unincorporated Area of Far West NSW. We provide a range of generalist, family law, family violence prevention and other legal services, as well as duty lawyer services at the Broken Hill Local Court, Wilcannia Court and Wentworth court. Our legal education and outreach services to the communities of Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe, Tibooburra and White Cliffs aim to support greater awareness of legal rights and access to services across Far West NSW.
The Principal Solicitor is responsible for the leadership, quality and development of the Centre’s legal practice. The Principal Solicitor provides high-quality legal services to clients experiencing disadvantage and barriers to justice, while leading and supporting the legal team to deliver accessible, client-centred and culturally safe services.
This role will work from our Broken Hill office with extensive travel required. Working closely with the Executive General Manager, Principal Solicitor – Mallee, Manager CLC NSW and the broader leadership team, the Principal Solicitor contributes to the Centre’s strategic direction and ensures that legal service delivery is consistent with the Centre’s objectives, funding requirements, professional obligations, risk-management framework and commitment to social justice.
The role combines legal practice, professional supervision, people leadership, practice governance, service development, community engagement and systemic advocacy.
- Australian legal qualification and admission as an Australian lawyer.
- Eligibility to hold an unrestricted practising certificate in the relevant jurisdiction and to practise as a principal, where applicable.
- Demonstrated substantial experience as a practising solicitor.
- A current driver’s licence, a willingness to travel and preparedness to be accommodated overnight will be required
