The Software Engineer role will be a part of a team in Advertising and Value belonging to Commerce Platforms tribe. The mission of the Commerce Platforms tribe is to enable end‑to‑end commerce across REA by configuring, pricing, selling, contracting, billing, and collecting payments. It delivers scalable B2B and D2C solutions for fast product launches and great customer experiences, while partnering across Product, Pricing, Sales, Finance, Customer, and Marketing to drive business growth.
What the role is all about
- Design and develop robust, scalable solutions for our platform, collaborating with cross-functional teams (in the squad/portfolio level) to deliver high-quality products.
- Write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive test coverage to ensure reliability and performance.
- Effective use of AI tools such as Github co-pilot, claude code or similar to enable delivery efficiency.
- Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and architecture planning to ensure alignment with our technical vision.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, both in development and production environments.
- Continuously refactor and improve existing codebases, reducing technical debt and enhancing system performance.
- Share knowledge across teams through pairing sessions, documentation, and technical presentations.
- Own assigned work from conception to production, including monitoring and maintaining them post-deployment.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support our "you build it, you run it" philosophy.
- Stay current with industry trends and technologies, suggesting improvements to our technology stack when appropriate.
- Contribute to engineering best practices and help establish technical standards across the organisation.
Who we’re looking for
- Working knowledge of agile & kanban methodologies and experience in collaborative, cross-functional teams.
- Strong full-stack skills, with expertise and desire for working across front-end, back-end & data driven systems
- Proficient in using github co-pilot, claude-code or similar tools to assist with effective coding
- Strong quality mindset and experience around building and maintaining unit & integration testing suites
- Experience building and maintaining scalable applications and services in cloud environments (AWS/GCP).
- Proficiency in CI/CD (BuildKite) pipelines, deployment strategies.
- Hands-on experience and proven track record with some of the following technology:
- GraphQL and RESTful APIs
- Event-driven Architecture (EDA)
- At least one JVM-based languages (Scala, Kotlin, or Java)
- React with TypeScript & CSS
- Database technologies (relational or NoSQL eg. Postgres, DynamoDB, Redis)
- Working with containerisation (Docker)
- AWS technologies and micro-services architecture
- 3+ years of experience in software development, with demonstrable expertise in at least one programming language.
- Monitoring and observability tools like Splunk, New Relic, PagerDuty, Cloudwatch
- Good understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
- Great problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex issues across various system layers on the application/infrastructure level.
- Great communication skills, able to articulate and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with being on call, in triaging & managing incidents
- Familiarity with security best practices and performance optimisation techniques like caching strategies and core web vitals.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic delivery of business value.
- Self-motivated with a growth mindset and willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.
