We are seeking a skilled and motivated Plumbing Supervisor - Water & Reuse Maintenance to join our Utilities team.
In this role you will oversee and coordinate the maintenance and repair activities of the water and reuse system within the Utilities branch; leading a team, scheduling work assignments, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and managing equipment and material resources effectively. Team composition and direct reports may vary depending on operational requirements.
The Plumbing Supervisor - Water & Reuse Maintenance plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the water and reuse plumbing infrastructure to support public health and environmental preservation efforts.
This role is dual graded depending on your skills and qualifications; without a Plumbing trade is considered a Grade 4 and with a Plumbing trade is a Grade 6 in our salary structure.
Note: This role is based in the Byron Shire of Northern NSW. - Plan, schedule and coordinate maintenance activities across water and recycled water networks, including inspections, cleaning and repairs.
- Ensure work is completed safely, on time and within budget while meeting service standards and operational targets.
- Inspect and assess water and recycled water assets, prioritising maintenance needs and implementing effective solutions.
- Operate and oversee specialised equipment, ensuring safe use and adherence to maintenance procedures.
- Maintain compliance with relevant regulations, permits and environmental standards.
- Keep accurate maintenance and asset records using asset management and planned maintenance systems.
- Deliver maintenance projects, including installation, modification and repair of water and recycled water infrastructure.
- Undertake water, recycled water and environmental sampling, along with general operational maintenance activities.
- Support the development of planned maintenance programs and recommend improvements to asset reliability and performance.
- Read and interpret plans, drawings and technical specifications, and use digital systems for reporting, communication and asset management.
- Manage operational budgets, purchase orders, inventory and stock levels to support efficient service delivery.
- Trade Qualification as a Plumber and Drainer with a minimum of 2 years post-trade experience (4+ years preferred), or equivalent experience.
- Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or similar qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
- Current Class C and MR Driver's Licence.
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Demonstrated experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of water and recycled water infrastructure.
- Proven ability to lead, supervise and develop teams, including training, skills development and performance management.
- Experience developing, coordinating and implementing works programs and maintenance schedules.
- Experience managing budgets, purchase orders and financial delegations.
- Proven ability to coordinate and liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, regulators and external agencies.
- Experience operating plant and equipment relevant to water and wastewater maintenance activities.
- Confined Space, Excavator VOC, Dogging and Forklift licences, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of commencement.
- Availability to participate in the Utilities on-call roster.
Highly desirable:
- Experience using Authority, CM9, Geocortex GIS Mapping and Brightly Assetic.
- Sound knowledge of water utility operations and asset maintenance practices.
- Experience supervising asbestos removal works.
- Working at Heights accreditation.
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, sustainability and safe work practices.
- Full time permanent position (38 hours per week / 9 day fortnight)
- Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of:
- Grade 4: $1,237.66 - $1,434.02 + 3% Market Loading
- Grade 6: $1,403.59 - 1,626.28 + 7% Market Loading
- Per 38 hour week (dependent upon skills and experience)

Location: This position is based at our Depot and (STP) Sewerage Treatment Plant in Byron Bay; however, Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
