The Opportunity

Are you looking for an opportunity to expand your laboratory research skills and learn from an experienced team?

The Strep A Pathogenesis and Diagnostics team is embedded within the END-Rheumatic Heart Disease Program at The Kids Research Institute Australia. Together we have an ambitious goal to end RHD in Australia by 2031 through a comprehensive research program which brings together community, researchers, practitioners & funders.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to provide essential laboratory support to our team. As the successful candidate, you will be helping the team determine Strep A incidence and prevalence, Strep A pharyngeal, and skin carriage frequency in asymptomatic individuals and characterise antibiotic use.

The Role

In this position, you will work within an experienced laboratory team and apply your skills in:

Immunoassays (including Luminex assays and ELISA’s).
Aseptic laboratory techniques.
Routine laboratory operations.
Accurate data entry and reporting.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

Undertaking aseptic laboratory experiments using standardised protocols.
Receiving, documenting, and storing laboratory reagents, chemicals, and materials.
Assisting in general lab management tasks.
Contributing to team meetings and journal clubs.
Working collaboratively with other research staff.

Working in our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities within Perth Children’s Hospital, this full-time position will be offered for an initial 1-year period.

About You

This position would suit someone with a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) or equivalent. An Honours degree in Immunology or equivalent laboratory experience is highly desirable.

Additionally, it is preferable that you hold the following experience and skill set:

Proficiency in Immunoassays.
Strong understanding of aseptic sample handling.
Experience in maintaining laboratory notebook, accurate data entry and ability to follow safe operating procedures.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic and diverse team.
