Farley Riggs is looking for a practical and experienced Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Fitter to join our Edinburgh workshop.
This is not your standard vehicle mechanic role.
You will work across a large and varied fleet of industrial, oilfield and support equipment including diesel-driven pumps, compressors, lighting plants, diesel engine skids, telehandlers, trailers, vehicles and other specialised mechanical equipment.
We are looking for someone who enjoys fault finding, understands diesel equipment and is comfortable working across different types of plant rather than doing the same job every day.
The role
Working from our Edinburgh workshop, you will be responsible for helping keep the Farley Riggs equipment fleet maintained, reliable and ready for mobilisation.
Your work will include:
- Servicing and repairing diesel engines and associated equipment
- Fault finding and diagnosing mechanical issues
- Maintaining diesel-driven pumps, compressors and engine-driven equipment
- Servicing lighting plants, telehandlers and other mobile plant
- Maintaining trailers, running gear, brakes, bearings and associated components
- Assisting with servicing of company vehicles and trucks where required
- Inspecting equipment returning from jobs and identifying repairs or maintenance required
- Completing preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
- Repairing and replacing mechanical components
- Working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems where required
- Completing basic fabrication, fitting and workshop repairs within your capability
- Preparing equipment so it is safe and ready for its next mobilisation
- Maintaining service records and identifying upcoming maintenance requirements
- Monitoring parts and mechanical consumables and advising when stock is required
- Keeping tools and the mechanical work area organised and maintained
- Assisting the broader workshop team when required
What we're looking for
Ideally, you will have a mechanical trade background with good diesel knowledge and experience working on plant, equipment or heavy machinery.
You may come from a background such as:
- Diesel Mechanic
- Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
- Plant Mechanic
- Mechanical Fitter
- Agricultural Mechanic
- Mining or resources maintenance
- Equipment hire
- Field service or industrial maintenance
A relevant trade qualification is highly regarded.
More importantly, we are looking for someone who:
- Has strong practical mechanical knowledge
- Is confident diagnosing and repairing faults
- Has experience working with diesel engines
- Can work across different types of equipment
- Is comfortable working independently once priorities are understood
- Takes ownership of getting equipment repaired and back into service
- Works well as part of a workshop team
- Is organised and able to manage competing maintenance priorities
- Takes pride in their work
- Has a strong focus on safety
- Is willing to help with other workshop duties when required
Experience with pumps, compressors, generators, hydraulics, telehandlers, trailers or similar equipment would be highly regarded.
A current driver's licence is required.
Forklift, HR/MR, White Card or other relevant licences and tickets would be advantageous.
