We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network’s (SCHN) Communications and Engagement Directorate. In a collaborative and supportive environment, you will help maintain SCHN’s external media profile and strengthen internal stakeholder engagement, positioning SCHN as international leaders in paediatric healthcare. Using your expertise in media, communications and audience-focused storytelling, you will develop and deliver strategic communications across media channels, proactively identify positive stories, manage reactive media enquiries, and supporting content for internal and external publications.
You will work closely with staff, patients and families, the NSW Ministry of Health and the Minister’s Office to ensure timely, accurate and engaging communications that showcase SCHN’s services, achievements, research and patient stories. This is an exciting opportunity for a communications professional with strong writing, judgement and stakeholder engagement skills seeking new challenges in a dynamic health environment.
What you'll be doing
The Communications and Engagement Directorate is responsible for implementing the communication, media and engagement strategies, maximising positive communication opportunities, and promoting the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN), its facilities and associated institutions.
The Senior Media and Communications Officer is responsible for maintaining SCHN’s external media profile and strengthening internal stakeholder engagement to position SCHN as international leaders in children’s health.
The role involves developing and delivering strategic communications across media and digital channels as well as managing both proactive and reactive enquiries. It requires close collaboration with communications teams at the NSW Ministry of Health and the Minister’s Office.

Tertiary qualifications in media relations, journalism or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience.

Advanced writing skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, concise and engaging key messages.

Demonstrated experience producing audience focused content across a range of platforms, including media and web.

Strong knowledge of audience focused storytelling and its impact on audience acquisition, retention and engagement.

Proven ability to plan, deliver, implement and evaluate integrated campaigns across multiple communications channels including media and website.

Demonstrated experience in proactively generating and pitching media stories as well as managing reactive media enquiries.

Extensive experience in developing, writing and editing content for diverse channels and platforms.
