Annual salary starting at $102,326 + 12% Superannuation
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is an inner eastern metropolitan Council, nestled on the outskirts of the CBD. The area enjoys a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit.
We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused person to join our Development Assessment team.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your building assessment expertise across a diverse range of residential, commercial and complex development projects and contribute to creating positive development outcomes for the community.
The Role
Reporting to the Manager, Development & Regulatory Services, the Development Officer, Building is responsible for the timely, accurate and transparent assessment and enforcement of all types of Development Applications in respect to Building Rules matters.
You will work closely with planners, applicants, builders, architects and the community to ensure developments comply with legislative requirements while supporting the creation of attractive, safe and sustainable places.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess Building Rules Consent applications under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and relevant legislation.
- Undertake inspections throughout various stages of development to ensure compliance with approved plans and statutory requirements.
- Provide expert advice on building-related matters to staff, applicants and stakeholders.
- Investigate and respond to unlawful development activities and building compliance matters.
- Assist with the administration and operation of the Building Fire Safety Committee.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Participate in building fire safety investigations and compliance activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, policies and procedures relating to building assessment services.
- Support the delivery of an efficient, transparent and customer-focused development assessment process.
Other responsibilities include contributing to the review and implementation of the Council's Building Inspections Policy, liaising with applicants and external organisations on development assessment matters and providing expert advice on building assessment and compliance matters.
About You
You are an accredited professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgement and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You enjoy working collaboratively, managing competing priorities and providing practical solutions within a legislative framework.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
- A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a building assessment, certification, surveying or related role
- Building Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 Accreditation under the Accredited Professionals Scheme (or be eligible for accreditation)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, the Planning Development & Infrastructure Act 2016, Work, Health & Safety and associated codes and legislation.
- Experience assessing building applications and undertaking inspections.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with staff, the public and Government Agencies
- Well-developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Experience in local government will be highly regarded.
