We aren't looking for someone who simply prices jobs—we're looking for someone who understands how to win profitable work, protect margins, and become a key commercial leader within our business.
About us, we are Spectrum Plumbing—Sydney’s specialists in mechanical plumbing delivering complex HVAC pipework across data centres, hospitals and commercial developments. Our focus is quality, efficiency and long-term relationships—not chasing every job that comes through the door.
We specialize in the HVAC sector, providing pipework for chilled water, condenser water, heating water, refrigeration & steam systems for HVAC infrastructure. We are optimizing our pre-construction division and seeking an industry expert to lead the estimating pipeline and safeguard project profitability.
We need a sharp, commercial professional who understands that profit is won or lost before a single technician arrives on site.
This is not your typical estimating role.
In this newly created position, we're looking for someone who wants to become one of the most influential people in our business.
As Spectrum Plumbing continues to grow, we're investing heavily in our pre-construction capabilities. The successful candidate won't simply estimate projects—they'll help shape how we tender, purchase, negotiate and ultimately scale the business.
You'll work directly alongside the Managing Director, with genuine influence over commercial strategy, supplier relationships and operational systems. As the business expands, you'll also have the opportunity to build and lead our offshore estimating team, creating the processes and standards that will underpin the next stage of our growth.
If you're ambitious, commercially minded and enjoy taking ownership rather than waiting for instructions, this role offers the opportunity to build something that most estimators never get the chance to.
The mission, as our estimator & procurement lead, you are the commercial engine of the business. Your job is two-fold: secure profitable contract wins through pin point accurate mechanical plumbing take-offs, and immediately protect those margins through strategic supplier negotiations and staged logistics.
You Will:
- Own the tender: manage the incoming pipeline, execute precise digital pipework/plant take-offs, and formulate winning commercial submissions.
- Master procurement: negotiate bulk-buy structures, source competitive supplier quotes, and stage material packages by project zones to eliminate site downtime.
- Build the system: refine internal playbooks and templates, then work with the Director to establish, train, and in time take the lead on a scalable offshore estimating team.
- Bridge the gap: act as the technical link between the drawings, the suppliers, and our on-site delivery teams.
About you
- The background: proven experience in mechanical plumbing, HVAC, or commercial hydraulics estimation is highly regarded.
- The edge: you don't just accept the first price from a supplier, you know how to negotiate whilst maintaining important relationships.
- The systems brain: you think in processes and look at a task and immediately figure out how to document it so someone else can replicate it accurately.
- The standard: you are obsessive about deadlines, highly responsive to RFI’s, and hold a zero-excuses policy for missed details.
- Skill set: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and estimating software.
What we offer
- The package: competitive base $75,000 - $90,000 (negotiable based on experience) + super + company phone + laptop (once established).
- The autonomy: you will report directly to the Managing Director. No corporate red tape — genuine influence over business direction.
- Stability: A secure, well-established business with a consistent project pipeline
- Career Trajectory: Clear, structured pathways for professional advancement as the company expands its market footprint.
How to apply
- Tell us about a time you turned a tight-margin tender into a highly profitable project during the procurement buyout phase.
