Project Officer - Patient Experience and Wellbeing
- Fixed term (12 month), part-time opportunity - 4 days per week, 64 hours per fortnight
- Parkville location, with excellent public transport access
- Up to $85,597 per annum (prorated for part time) + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave

About the team
The Peter Mac Patient Experience and Wellbeing Department leads a range of high-impact work in three streams: patient experience, consumer engagement, and wellbeing. Our work includes developing programs, services and policies that recognise the influence of the social determinants of health and support more equitable health outcomes for patients and carers. We are a diverse and motivated team that shares a goal of improving the care experience of people with cancer.
About the role
As the Project Officer, you will work closely with the Senior Project Officer on multiple projects and programs, mostly within the wellbeing workstream. Working alongside patients, clinicians, community partners and Peter Mac colleagues, you will improve the wellbeing and care experience of people with cancer and their carers. Initial priorities will include continued delivery of a project to improve the accessibility of our Peter Mac Men’s Shed for people with disability, as well as supporting the implementation of an innovative Social Prescribing pilot and a new patient orientation program.
This is an exciting opportunity to build your project management and stakeholder engagement skills while contributing to initiatives that improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
A regular day will see you:
- Provide high-quality administrative support with project documentation and resources, including project plans, meeting materials, presentations and progress reports
- Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, clinicians and external service delivery partners to support project outcomes
- Monitoring progress and helping to keep projects on track
- Gathering feedback and identifying opportunities to improve services and programs

Position Summary
This position supports the delivery of projects and service improvement activities across multiple department workstreams. Working under the direction of senior staff, the Project Officer will contribute to project planning, implementation, stakeholder engagement, evaluation, and reporting activities. The position will coordinate project activities, draft documents, and support service delivery as required. It involves contact with patients and carers, including people with lived experience as partners in service design and delivery.
This position is required to work in-person at our Melbourne Campus most of the time. This position is predominantly on-site given the patient facing nature of the role. However, flexibility can be explored based on the nature of the request in conjunction with operational requirements.

Essential Requirements
Understanding of the healthcare environment, including working collaboratively across disciplines
Demonstrated experience supporting projects, programs, service improvement initiatives or administrative activities.
Well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, patient-centred care and consumer participation in healthcare
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
Desirable Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in health, human services, health management, project management, or similar
Experience working in a health service in a project or administrative capacity
Familiarity with quality improvement, consumer engagement or patient experience programs.
