The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking a Lead Asset Officer to support the statewide management of critical assets that underpin Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) and broader emergency management operations.
This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven team responsible for ensuring assets are safe, reliable, compliant and ready to support both day-to-day operations and emergency response activities. You will work across a diverse portfolio of assets, partnering with operational teams, regional staff, suppliers and contractors to improve asset performance, maintenance planning, lifecycle management and operational readiness. Some regional travel may be required.
As a Lead Asset Officer, you will contribute to strengthening asset management discipline across the organisation by developing asset class plans, monitoring performance, maintaining compliance and providing practical advice that supports informed decision making.
About the role
You will bring:
- experience managing assets across their lifecycle, including maintenance, compliance and performance monitoring
- experience in project management and change management
- the ability to develop and maintain asset management plans, registers and supporting documentation aligned with governance requirements
- analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret performance, risk and financial information and provide practical recommendations
- demonstrated experience working with contractors, stakeholders and operational partners
- a focus on safety, continuous improvement and customer service
- relevant degree, diploma or trade qualification
- current driver's licence and willingness to obtain higher class licences if required
- forklift licence (LF) or willingness to obtain one if required.
- This role may require physically demanding activities including heavy lifting, prolonged standing and work in restricted or awkward environments.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Project management and change management experience
- Ability to develop and govern AMAF-aligned asset class plans, oversee lifecycle, maintenance and statutory compliance and translate performance, risk and financial insights into clear executive advice.
- Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining asset classes
- Relevant degree / diploma / trade qualification is required.
- Forklift licence (LF) and/or willingness to obtain, if required.
- Current drivers licence appropriate to the fleet (and ability to obtain higher class licence if required).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, sustained standing and work in restricted or awkward environments.
