James An College (JAC) is a well-established coaching college dedicated to helping academically motivated students achieve outstanding results. We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Assisting Tutor to support our VCE/John Monash Program, which prepares high-achieving students for competitive academic examinations and advanced secondary studies.
This role is ideal for university students, pre-service teachers, or experienced tutors with strong Mathematics and Science knowledge who enjoy working with capable and motivated learners.
Working Hours
Applicants should be available after school hours on weekdays and/or Saturdays.
Current class times are:
- Thursdays & Fridays: 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm
- Saturdays: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
About the Role
As an Assisting Tutor, you will work alongside the lead teacher to support students in developing advanced Mathematics and Science skills for competitive academic programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the lead tutor during classes.
- Supporting students with challenging Mathematics and Science concepts.
- Providing one-on-one and small-group assistance during lessons.
- Monitoring student participation and engagement.
- Checking homework and assisting with marking where required.
- Helping students develop effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Encouraging students to remain motivated and confident in their learning.
- Assisting with classroom organisation and administration as needed.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong academic achievement in Mathematics and Science.
- Previous tutoring experience is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.
- A positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for helping students succeed.
- Strong organisational skills and reliability.
- The ability to work collaboratively with senior teaching staff.
- A current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
- Full Australian work rights.
Current university students studying Education, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
