What you’ll do
As a Senior Design Technologist at Woolworths, you will sit at the intersection of design and engineering, blurring the lines to transform product development. You will shape our enterprise design system, build tooling that empowers designers, incubate AI-driven patterns, and establish golden paths that elevate craft, rigor, and speed across teams.
Core responsibilities:
Lead the migration to next-generation component systems, establishing golden paths for new projects while enabling teams to incrementally refactor existing product surfaces.
Develop custom design system tooling and workflows, including Figma plugins, interactive prototypes, and component migration helpers to increase efficiency.
Incubate and prototype innovative design patterns at the intersection of AI, accessibility, and adaptive interfaces to push the boundaries of product experiences.
Evaluate, deploy, and integrate AI-assisted design and engineering workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) into production practices while maintaining high craft standards.
Collaborate directly with engineering teams to design component architectures, tokens, and libraries in Figma while evaluating technical trade-offs and buildability.
Mentor team members and drive organization-wide adoption of design-technology standards, autonomously navigating ambiguity while influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
What you’ll bring
Proven and solid experience at the intersection of design and engineering, with a proven track record of shipping production code and building internal design tooling.
Deep expertise in Figma, specifically in component architecture, variables, and plugin development, complemented by strong systems thinking and conceptual modeling skills.
Strong working knowledge of React, modern JavaScript, and mobile development (iOS/Android) for building maintainable, high-quality component architectures.
Hands-on experience scaling design systems (tokens, governance) and practical, deep knowledge of Web Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2).
Demonstrated capability in evaluating and implementing AI-augmented workflows and tools, such as Claude Code and Cursor, to enhance design and engineering efficiency.
Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional communication skills, and a mandatory portfolio demonstrating systems thinking and technical artifacts.
Bachelor's degree in Design (e.g., Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design) Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
