The City of Boroondara is seeking reliable and community-minded individuals to express interest in joining our School Crossing Supervisor team. This rewarding role helps create a safer environment for children, families and the broader community by assisting pedestrians to crossroads safely at designated school crossings.
Casual School Crossing Supervisors may be required to provide relief coverage for permanent part‑time employees during periods of leave or unplanned absences.
About the Role
School Crossing Supervisors support the safety of children and pedestrians at designated crossings during peak school times. The role involves working at various locations across Boroondara and following VicRoads and Council procedures. Hours are part‑time and generally align with school start and finish times.
About You
You are a dependable and safety-focused individual who understands the importance of protecting children and supporting the community. You take pride in being punctual, responsible and approachable.
You are confident communicating with a diverse range of people and can maintain a professional and respectful manner in public-facing situations. Your ability to remain alert, focused and calm enables you to respond effectively to changing traffic conditions.
You are committed to following procedures, working safely and contributing positively to your local community. Previous experience is not essential, as training will be provided; however, a strong commitment to safety and customer service is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include safely managing pedestrian crossings, ensuring traffic is stopped before pedestrians cross, and reinforcing key road safety messages with children. The role also involves engaging respectfully with community members, maintaining uniform and equipment, complying with Council policies, reporting incidents or hazards, and participating in required training.
Employment Requirements
- Ability to instruct and direct users of school crossings in a safe and professional manner
- Good verbal communication skills including basic English
- Ability to build rapport with school communities and all school crossing users
- Ability to read and understand written instructions
- Flexibility to take up duty at various school crossings throughout the municipality as required
- Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check, pre-employment medical assessment and hold a valid Working with Children Clearance.
