Compliance Officer - Sydney | Melbourne
Role
We are looking for a skilled Compliance Officer to join our first line of defence, based in APAC. This role focuses on the day-to-day delivery of AML/CTF controls — in particular customer and business onboarding and transaction monitoring — as part of a broad, generalist compliance remit supporting the business across the region.
You bring hands-on experience in onboarding due diligence (KYC/KYB), transaction monitoring, and financial crime controls within payments, e-money, or another regulated financial services environment, and are comfortable working as a generalist across a wide range of compliance topics in a fast-growing business.

Key Responsibilities
AML/CTF Onboarding & Transaction Monitoring
- Support customer and business onboarding due diligence, including KYC/KYB checks, risk scoring, and enhanced due diligence for higher-risk clients.
- Perform ongoing transaction monitoring, investigate alerts, and escalate suspicious activity in line with internal policy.
- Carry out sanctions and PEP screening, and manage resolution of related alerts.
- Support the preparation and filing of suspicious activity/transaction reports (SARs/STRs) as required.
First Line Compliance Support
- Act as a first point of contact for day-to-day compliance queries from the business across APAC markets.
- Support implementation of group compliance policies and procedures at a local and regional level.
- Assist with regulatory licensing, registration, and notification processes across APAC jurisdictions.
- Identify and escalate compliance risks and control gaps to second line and senior management.
Risk & Controls
- Execute first line risk assessments and controls relevant to onboarding, payments, and financial crime risk.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to evidence compliance activity.
- Support remediation of identified issues and track actions through to closure.
Monitoring, Reporting & Training
- Contribute to the compliance monitoring plan and reporting for the region.
- Support delivery of AML and compliance training across the APAC business.
- Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and regulatory accountability.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Experience in AML/CTF compliance, including onboarding (KYC/KYB) and transaction monitoring, within payments, e-money, fintech, or another regulated financial services environment.
- Working knowledge of AML/CTF and financial crime requirements applicable across APAC markets (e.g., MAS in Singapore, HKMA/SFC in Hong Kong, AUSTRAC in Australia, JFSA in Japan), with willingness to build knowledge across multiple jurisdictions.
- Practical understanding of sanctions screening, PEP screening, and suspicious activity/transaction reporting processes.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and ability to apply policy consistently to real cases.
- Good judgement in escalating risk and identifying red flags.
- Clear written communication skills for case notes, reports, and escalations.
- Comfortable working across multiple APAC markets and time zones.
Education & Certifications
- Degree in law, finance, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Relevant AML/compliance certifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS) preferred.
