As part of ongoing aged care reforms, the introduction of Support at Home, continued service growth and the development of our finance systems and reporting processes, we are seeking an experienced and analytical Management Accountant to join our Finance team at our Spring Hill office.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and analytical Management Accountant to join our Finance team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in analysing the organisation’s financial and operational performance and providing accurate management information to support financial planning, service delivery and management decision-making.
The role will have a particular focus on budgeting and forecasting, service costing and pricing, funding and budget utilisation, financial and non-financial data analysis, internal management reporting, data quality and continuous improvement and automation of financial reporting systems.
The Management Accountant will work closely with the CFO, Accountant (General), Senior management and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insights that support efficient use of government funding, sustainable service delivery and the organisation’s ongoing growth under Support at Home and other aged care programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and review annual budgets and financial plans in line with organisational objectives, expected service volumes, available funding and operational requirements.
- Prepare regular internal management reports for the CFO, CEO and Board, including budget-to-actual results, financial performance, service utilisation, cost trends and relevant financial and operational performance indicators.
- Analyse financial and non-financial data to identify trends, variances, risks and opportunities and provide information to support management decision-making and business planning.
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts and scenario models covering client growth, service volumes, workforce requirements, funding utilisation and organisational financial sustainability.
- Analyse Support at Home funding and budget utilisation across the organisation, including quarterly utilisation, service mix, unspent funding trends and projected service demand.
- Develop and maintain service costing models across Support at Home, CHSP and other aged care programs, including analysis of direct labour, travel, administration, subcontractor and other service delivery costs.
- Undertake analysis to support reasonable, transparent and evidence-based service pricing, including maintaining costing information and supporting documentation for Support at Home service fees.
- Analyse cost performance across aged care and community services, examining income, expenditure and unit costs by program, service type and operational area to identify variances, cost pressures and opportunities for improved financial efficiency.
- Undertake benchmarking and comparative analysis of service costs, operational performance and financial results to support continuous improvement and management planning.
- Conduct regular data quality reviews and financial data audits to identify inconsistencies, anomalies or incomplete information affecting management reporting, costing, forecasting and financial analysis.
- Work with Finance, operational teams, IT staff and external software providers to improve the quality and integration of financial and operational data used for management reporting.
- Develop and improve management reporting systems, dashboards, analytical tools and automated reporting processes to reduce manual processing and improve the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation and integration between accounting, client management and government funding systems.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to management regarding service development, workforce planning, resource allocation, significant operational expenditure and other business decisions.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and assess financial risks associated with operational changes, funding arrangements and significant expenditure decisions.
- Establish and maintain appropriate controls over management accounting information, costing models, financial analysis and reporting processes to support the reliability and integrity of management information.
- Provide financial and analytical information to the Accountant (General) and CFO to assist with statutory, regulatory and government financial reporting where required.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of financial systems, budgeting processes, reporting tools and internal financial procedures as the organisation continues to adapt to the Aged Care Act 2024, Aged Care Rules 2025 and Support at Home program requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor degree or higher tertiary qualification, together with demonstrated professional experience in finance, accounting, financial analysis, management reporting, data analysis or a related business function.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience in finance, accounting, financial analysis, management reporting, budgeting, data analysis or a closely related business function.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis and financial performance reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse financial and non-financial information and provide meaningful information to support business planning and management decision-making.
- Experience developing or maintaining costing models, budgets, forecasts, management reports or financial dashboards.
- Strong understanding of financial controls and management reporting principles.
- Previous experience within aged care, Support at Home, Home Care Packages, CHSP, healthcare, government-funded community services or a similar regulated funding environment would be highly regarded.
- Practical knowledge of Support at Home funding, quarterly budgets, service utilisation, service costing or aged care pricing requirements would be highly regarded.
- Experience with financial systems, reporting automation, data analysis or process improvement would be highly regarded.
- Qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce, business, economics or another relevant quantitative discipline would be highly regarded.
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to management and non-financial staff.
- Proficiency in accounting software, financial management systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet reporting deadlines and work independently within a professional team environment.
- Polish language skills would be highly regarded due to All Aged Care’s longstanding provision of services to Polish-speaking older people and families and our continuing commitment to supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
