About the Opportunity
The Senior Conservation Technician assists in the delivery of strategic and philanthropic projects, digitisation, and the physical care of the collection. The role will apply specialist knowledge and skills in line with appropriate Museum Guidelines and Standards.
In addition to constructing custom housing for collection materials, the Senior Conservation Technician assists in the preparation and maintenance of specialist Conservation laboratory supplies and equipment.
About You
We value your experience handling cultural collections and your understanding of ethical, occupational safety, and sustainability standards and protocols. You will be skilled in the construction of custom storage solutions and approach multidisciplinary projects collaboratively.
You will need:
- Demonstrated capacity in the construction of custom supports and housing including exhibition mounting and framing, for collection material in a library or cultural heritage context.
- Demonstrated experience in the handling of fragile, vulnerable and/or valuable collection material, with an understanding of collection materials and library formats.
- Understanding of conservation ethics and conservation approaches, and how they apply to the care of the Library's collections.
- Proven ability in working collaboratively, preferably within a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Ability to complete tasks accurately and within time limits both autonomously and as part of a team, combined with the ability to work on repetitive tasks with patience.
