Our Organisation
At The Benevolent Society, we believe every person deserves to live life on their own terms, with dignity, respect and a sense of belonging. For over two centuries, this belief has shaped who we are and how we work.
We’re working towards a just society where everyone feels valued, safe and included. As a not-for-profit, independent and non-religious organisation, we proudly embrace diversity and are deeply committed to reconciliation. We welcome people from all backgrounds, identities and experiences to join us in creating positive change.
About the role
As our Community Engagement Specialist, you will be the face of The Carer Gateway program, creating awareness and increasing uptake among the carers who need it most. Your core focus is to grow referrals by building strong partnerships, forging community connections, and engaging directly with carers.
You’ll bring curiosity, creativity, and initiative to the role, identifying gaps in the community and finding new ways to reach carers who may not yet know support is available. By building authentic relationships and approaching each interaction with warmth and purpose, you’ll help more carers access the free information, counselling, coaching, and practical assistance offered through Carer Gateway.
Key areas of responsibility
- Grow referrals to Carer Gateway through proactive outreach in locations such as hospitals, community centres, organisations, expos, and local events.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across referral networks, panels, and service providers, acting as a visible and trusted program ambassador
-
Deliver presentations and information sessions to hospitals, aged care, disability organisations, and community groups.
- Lead and coordinate key events such as Service Provider Days, Open Days, and expos, ensuring effective cross‑team collaboration.
- Create and share program materials with consumers, referral agencies, and partner organisations.
- Manage your own schedule and plan activities efficiently.
- Ensure services are person‑centred, connected, effective, and safe.
Skills and Experience
We are committed to ensuring your success in this role! To thrive with us, you should possess:
-
Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, partnerships, business development, account management or a similar relationship-focused role.
-
An established professional network and the ability to leverage existing relationships while confidently creating new ones.
-
Exceptional communication, presentation and influencing skills, with a polished and professional approach to engaging a diverse range of stakeholders.
-
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, managing your workload while contributing to shared goals.
-
Strong communication and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced outreach environment.
-
Flexibility to work across multiple locations, including our Hurstville office and outreach areas across North & Central Sydney.
Qualifications in community services, business, marketing or related areas and/or equivalent experience with transferable skills.
-
Please note: Occasional weekend/after-hours work may be required for pre-planned events.
