Retail Supervisor – Swimart Cairns

We are seeking an experienced, customer-focused, and enthusiastic Retail Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of our retail store, lead and support our team, and deliver outstanding customer service while contributing to the continued growth of the business.
Salary: $72,000 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day customer service experience, ensuring customers receive accurate advice on pool chemicals, equipment, water testing results, and suitable product solutions.
- Support retail staff in achieving sales targets through effective upselling and cross-selling of pool chemicals, pumps, filters, chlorinators, cleaners, and related products.
- Resolve customer enquiries, complaints, and product-related issues professionally and efficiently.
- Supervise and coordinate daily retail operations, including allocating duties across the shop floor, water testing station, and point-of-sale area.
- Train, mentor, and support team members in product knowledge, customer service standards, safe chemical handling, and store procedures.
- Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing coaching to maintain high levels of customer service and operational excellence.
- Oversee store opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, point-of-sale reconciliation, banking, and security checks.
- Ensure the store is clean, well-presented, and merchandised in accordance with company standards, maintaining accurate pricing, signage, and promotional displays.
- Monitor stock levels of pool chemicals, spare parts, equipment, and retail accessories, coordinating deliveries, stock rotation, storage, and inventory control activities.
- Identify stock discrepancies and communicate inventory requirements to management.
- Oversee the pool water testing station, ensuring testing is conducted accurately and that appropriate chemical recommendations are provided to customers.
- Provide guidance to staff and customers regarding pool equipment troubleshooting, product suitability, and maintenance solutions.
- Assist in preparing quotations for pumps, filters, chlorinators, and equipment installations.
- Complete daily sales reporting, banking, point-of-sale reconciliation, staff rosters, timesheets, and training records, while reporting operational issues, customer trends, and stock requirements to management.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, including the safe handling and storage of pool chemicals, spill management procedures, and maintaining a safe environment for employees and customers.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Retail Supervisor, Retail Team Leader, or similar retail leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and motivate a team in a customer-focused retail environment.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to coordinate daily operations, allocate staff responsibilities, and maintain high service standards.
- Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash handling procedures, stock control, and inventory management.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Commitment to maintaining workplace health and safety standards.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Knowledge of pool water chemistry, pool equipment, and water testing procedures.
- Experience preparing quotations for retail products or equipment installations.
- Experience using retail inventory management and reporting systems.
- Current Pool and Spa Water Testing accreditation, or willingness to undertake relevant industry training.
