Casual Position | Opportunity to Progress to Permanent Part-Time

Miss Spelt’s Organics is looking for an experienced, energetic and customer-focused Retail Sales Assistant to join our boutique organic health food store in Healesville.
This is initially a casual position, with the opportunity to progress to permanent part-time for the right person.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys health food retail, loves working with food and people, and takes pride in keeping a store organised, well-stocked and welcoming. You will be involved in customer service, stock management, merchandising and the day-to-day running of the store.
This role would be ideal for someone who has:
- Previous food retail experience, particularly in a health food store, bulk food store, produce shop, grocery store or supermarket
- Strong customer service experience and confidence engaging with customers
- Experience with stock control, inventory management and POS systems
- A genuine interest in cooking, baking and food
- A passion for organic produce and wholefoods
- An interest in sustainable living, reducing waste and plastic-free shopping
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Inventory
- Assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the store
- Receive deliveries, replenish stock and maintain appropriate stock levels
- Monitor inventory and assist with stock ordering and stock rotation
- Maintain accurate pricing, product displays and merchandising
- Ensure the store is clean, organised, well presented and ready for customers
- Follow store procedures, food handling requirements and workplace safety guidelines
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable and personalised customer service
- Assist customers with product enquiries and recommendations
- Build positive relationships with our regular customers and local community
- Respond professionally to customer questions, feedback and concerns
- Help create a warm and welcoming shopping experience
Sales & Store Performance
- Actively contribute to store sales through excellent service and product knowledge
- Identify opportunities for additional sales and appropriate product recommendations
- Assist with promotions, seasonal displays and new product launches
- Provide feedback on customer requests, product demand and emerging trends
- Work with the team to improve store presentation, efficiency and customer experience
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years' retail experience, preferably within grocery, bulk foods, health foods, fresh produce or a similar food retail environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Experience with inventory management, stock rotation and POS systems
- Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for tasks
- Good physical fitness, as the position involves regular stock handling and some heavy lifting
- Flexibility to work across different shifts, including weekends when required
- Excellent computer skills- sending emails, Microsoft Word, Excel, Printing, using web apps
Highly Regarded
- Knowledge of organic foods, wholefoods, health foods and sustainable products
- Experience working in a bulk food or zero-waste environment
- Strong cooking or baking knowledge
- Experience with retail inventory management software
- Nutrition, naturopathy or other relevant health and wellness qualifications or knowledge
