Primary objective
Undertake a range of research and project work regarding the Northern Territory Mineral Titles Act, provide specialist advice and
assistance to a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, and conduct on-site audits of activities on mining tenure.
Context statement
Mineral Titles is a multi-disciplined administrative unit comprising personnel with geographic information system and database
skills, field personnel with expertise in Aboriginal liaison and culture, exploration and mining industry experience and general
administrative staff across a range of administrative officer levels. This position requires solo travel in remote areas which could
require camping for up to 2 weeks at a time. Data collection from drones, GPS, GIS, or historical documents to be complied into
concise reports with considerations or recommendations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Plan and undertake on-site audits, inspections, and investigations relating to mineral title locations, mineral title suitability, non-
compliant mineral titles, and illegal fossicking, by utilising Drone imagery of mineral titles for reporting on condition, usage, or
non-compliance.
2. Engage with and provide specialist advice to a diverse range of stakeholders on legislation related to mineral tenure matters.
3. As an appointed Authorised Officer investigate reports of breaches under the Mineral Titles Act 2010.
4. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
5. Draft high-level correspondence, investigation/audit reports, procedures, and other documentation; undertake a range of
projects; ensure corporate compliance and maintain effective reporting and governance systems in all areas of responsibility.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed knowledge of land tenure in the Northern Territory and experience in the use of Geographical Information
Systems with the ability to produce maps from a variety of sources including drone imagery.
2. Current unrestricted NT driver license and demonstrated experience with 4-wheel drive vehicles.
3. Sound mathematics and computer skills including competency with Microsoft office software.
4. Demonstrated experience in working in very remote locations for extended periods within the NT or similar locations.
5. Well-developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder
relationships.
6. Proven skills in undertaking investigations and audits including the application of relevant legislation.
Desirable
1. CASA certified Remote Pilot licensed (up to 25kg) or the ability to obtain.
2. Knowledge of the mining industry in the NT and relevant legislation including the Mineral Titles Act 2010.
3. Current senior first aid and remote first aid qualifications.
4. Qualifications in Project Management and Government Investigations
5. Proven ability to work collaboratively with and provide specialist, authoritative advice to stakeholders in person and through
the preparation of quality high level documentation
6. Knowledge of the relationship between Indigenous people, land and resource issues and an understanding of how to achieve
resolution of titles management issues.
