Primary objective
Based at the Darwin Correctional Centre (DCC), the Reporting and Operations Support Officer will be required to assist in the
provision of advice, administrative support and reporting to managers and employees on a diverse range of rostering and leave
matters to ensure operational compliance with enterprise agreements to enhance the capability and delivery of the department’s
business outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist with the provision of advice and support to management and staff on rostering, leave, operational compliance with the
enterprise agreements and performance reporting to achieve agency outcomes.
2. Maintain and coordinate staff appraisals and liaise with Staff Learning and Development to ensure training and development
requirements are planned and incorporated into the roster and leave schedules.
3. Preparation of DCC reporting and provide responses to requests for information on rosters, leave, Enterprise Agreement
compliance and operations from Corrections Management or AGD.
4. Assist with the management of cost-effective rostering, including overtime and higher duties, to meet operational
requirements of DCC and Datjala Work Camp.
5. Direct requests for assistance and advice to the appropriate central advice or support area on human resource queries.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working
relationships with clients.
2. Demonstrated experience in leading a team environment that values information sharing and multi skilling.
3. Demonstrated ability to undertake research, with analytical and problem-solving skills and to prepare complex reports.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the rostering process, conditions of service and relevant Enterprise Agreements relevant to
Correctional staff or ability to acquire quickly.
5. High level of self-management including ability to work with minimum supervision, use initiative and display sound professional
ethics of confidentiality and discretion.
6. Proven skills in the effective use of computer systems and spreadsheet applications including Word, Excel, mainframe and
databases, with the ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
8. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in the full recruitment process and procedure.
Desirable
1. An appreciation of prison operations and the environmental context that the position works within.
