We are seeking an experienced and motivated Management Accountant / Accountant to join our growing hospitality business.
This is a hands-on and commercially focused role covering the full accounting function, from day-to-day bookkeeping and financial reporting through to management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis and business planning.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records while using financial information to analyse business performance and support management decision-making.
This is not simply a data-entry accounting role. We are looking for someone who can understand the numbers behind the business, identify key trends and issues, and provide meaningful insights and recommendations to management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and general ledger activities, including sales, purchases, expenses and other accounting transactions.
- Manage and maintain Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), including reconciliation and review of supporting documentation.
- Perform bank, balance sheet and other account reconciliations.
- Prepare and process month-end adjustments, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other closing entries.
- Assist with year-end financial close and external accountant/auditor requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in accordance with relevant accounting standards and business requirements.
Financial Reporting & Management Accounting
- Prepare and review Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements.
- Prepare monthly Management Accounts and management reporting packs.
- Analyse monthly financial results and identify significant movements, trends and areas requiring attention.
- Prepare Actual vs Budget variance analysis and investigate the key drivers behind material variances.
- Provide clear and practical financial insights to management to support business decisions.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Analysis
- Assist with the preparation and ongoing management of budgets, forecasts and cash flow plans.
- Monitor business performance against budget and forecast.
- Analyse revenue, cost of goods sold, labour costs, operating expenses and profitability across individual venues/business units.
- Develop and monitor relevant KPIs and performance indicators.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, operational improvement and profitability enhancement.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Business Planning & Commercial Support
- Conduct preliminary financial and profitability analysis for new businesses, venues and projects.
- Assist with the preparation of business plans, financial models and management reports.
- Support management with financial analysis for new investments and business opportunities.
- Work closely with management and operational teams to translate financial data into practical business insights and recommendations.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A degree or relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, financial accounting or management accounting.
- Solid experience in bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end closing and financial statement preparation.
- A good understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and management accounting.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and explain the underlying causes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with management and operational teams.
- The ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
- A commercial mindset and genuine interest in understanding how financial performance can drive business improvement.
Desirable
- Previous accounting experience in Hospitality, Restaurants, Retail or other multi-site businesses.
- Experience working with venue-level or business-unit financial reporting.
- Progress towards or completion of CPA or CA qualification.
- Experience with accounting software and financial reporting systems.
