Newmont Tanami
Tanami is one of Australia’s most remote and significant underground gold mines, located deep in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory. As a fully fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) operation, Tanami flies around 1,800 employees and contractors to site via its own airstrip, with teams working on a rotational camp roster. The mine was originally an open-pit operation but has evolved into a world-class underground asset with extensive modern infrastructure. A major expansion (Tanami Expansion 2) is underway – including a 1.5-kilometre-deep hoisting shaft – to extend Tanami’s life beyond 2040 and increase production efficiency. The remote location fosters a close-knit team spirit, where safety and mutual respect are paramount. Tanami’s workforce is proud to work in partnership with the local Warlpiri people on whose land we operate, ensuring that our presence contributes positively to communities. Working at Tanami means tackling unique technical challenges in a supportive environment, with a strong focus on Always Safe, responsible operations and improving daily to secure this mine’s long-term future.
