Costerfield Operations, owned and operated by Alkane Resources Ltd, is situated in Central Victoria, east of Bendigo and surrounded by numerous towns within a 50km radius, offering a variety of residential options.
Our current operation runs an underground mine and processing plant that is responsible for producing gold and antimony. The mine's workforce consists of over 250 permanent employees who hold various roles in professional, technical, mining, processing, and trades.

About The Role
Reporting to the Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Manager, this senior leadership role is responsible for driving safety performance, strengthening organisational capability, and leading the site's training and competency function. You will play a critical role in embedding a proactive safety culture, managing critical risks, and ensuring our people have the skills, knowledge and competencies required to perform their work safely and effectively.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
· Lead the site's health, safety and training functions, driving a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with legislative and company requirements.
· Maintain and continuously improve the Mine Safety Management System (MSMS), critical risk controls and Principal Hazard Management Plans.
· Lead incident investigations, audits, inspections and assurance activities to drive continuous improvement and prevent recurrence.
· Oversee emergency preparedness, contractor management, worker consultation and health surveillance programs.
· Partner with operational leaders to embed safety accountability, risk management and safe work practices across the business.
· Provide leadership and oversight of all training and competency activities across underground, processing and maintenance operations.
· Ensure inductions, mandatory training, competency assessments and statutory compliance requirements are effectively managed and maintained.
· Oversee training needs analyses, competency frameworks, training records and workforce compliance systems.
· Identify capability gaps and implement training and development programs that support operational performance and workforce growth.
· Lead, coach and develop the training team, ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality training and competency outcomes.
About You
You are a respected safety professional and people leader who can influence at all levels of an organisation. You are passionate about developing capability, strengthening safety culture and driving operational excellence.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading safety performance and culture improvement within mining, heavy industry or other complex operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation, mining legislation and contemporary health and safety management systems.
- Experience with incident investigation methodologies, including ICAM or equivalent.
- Proven ability to lead safety assurance, compliance and risk management programs across multiple teams, contractors and projects.
- Experience managing training, competency and workforce development programs.
- Strong leadership capability with experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at all organisational levels.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours and practices.
- Strong planning, organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to balance strategic priorities and operational requirements.
