Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.
Our vision is safety, support and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.
THE ROLE
Safe Steps is seeking an experienced Marketing & Communications Manager to lead the organisation's marketing and communications function, strengthening our reputation, visibility and engagement across community, government, corporate, philanthropic and sector audiences.
Reporting to the Group Director, Business Growth, this role combines strategic planning with hands-on delivery, leading integrated marketing campaigns, digital communications, social media, events, publications and brand initiatives. You will play a key role in amplifying Safe Steps' advocacy efforts, supporting fundraising activities and increasing awareness of our services across Victoria.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications & Brand Leadership
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Safe Steps' marketing and communications strategy.
- Protect and strengthen the Safe Steps brand across all channels and audiences.
- Provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Manage media enquiries and support public-facing communications.
Digital Marketing & Content
- Lead digital marketing, social media and website strategy.
- Develop engaging content across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and emerging platforms.
- Create digital assets, campaigns, publications and marketing materials.
- Oversee website content, optimisation and user experience.
Events & Community Engagement
- Lead the planning and delivery of Safe Steps' flagship Candlelight Vigil event.
- Support organisational launches, partnership events and community engagement activities.
- Identify opportunities to grow awareness through partnerships and strategic initiatives.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor campaign performance, audience engagement and brand reach.
- Use insights and analytics to strengthen marketing outcomes and organisational impact.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of marketing systems, processes and resources.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related discipline.
- Approximately 7+ years' experience in marketing and communications roles.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong digital marketing and social media expertise across multiple platforms.
- Experience developing and delivering integrated campaigns, content and communications strategies.
- Experience managing events, creative projects and external suppliers.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Canva, email marketing and digital publishing platforms.
- Experience using analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Meta Business Suite.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Marketing, Communications or a related field.
- Experience in the not-for-profit, community services or family violence sector.
- Experience supporting fundraising or philanthropy campaigns.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign and Photoshop.
- Knowledge of SEO paid digital advertising and audience development strategies.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and accessible communications
