Austek Roads (ACT) are seeking an experienced Asphalt Supervisor to join our team based in Hume, ACT.
The Asphalt Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of a paving crew. The primary focus is to ensure asphalt laying operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a "hands-on" leader who can coordinate plant, material deliveries, and personnel to meet daily production targets while maintaining strict adherence to technical specifications.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & On-Site Coordination

Supervise and direct daily activities of the paving crew
- Coordinate the daily arrival of asphalt trucks and logistics
- Conduct morning "Toolbox Talks" and Pre-Start meetings
- Monitor crew performance, fatigue, and adherence to the schedule.
Technical Quality Control

Oversee the set-up of the paver and ensure correct depths, levels, and crossfalls are achieved as per the project plan.

Manage temperatures of the asphalt mix upon arrival and during compaction.

Ensure compaction patterns are followed by roller operators to meet density requirements (TfNSW/Roads ACT specs).

Perform direct site measurements and calculate tonnage requirements for upcoming shifts.
Safety & Environmental Compliance

Ensure all site works comply with the Site Specific Safety Plan and WHS legislation.

Manage traffic control interfaces to ensure a safe work zone for the crew and the public.

Implement silica dust controls and manage bitumen fume exposure protocols.

Ensure all plant machinery are checked daily and are in safe working order.
Reporting & Administration

Prepare and submit daily dockets, production sheets, and accurate timesheets for the crew.

Manage site diaries and record any delays for variation claims.

Directly manage "Inclement Weather" procedures.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This is a physically demanding role in high-temperature environments (asphalt heat and Canberra summer/winter).

Ability to work frequent night shifts and weekends as per project demands.

Must be able to stand, walk, and operate machinery for the duration of an 8.5-hour shift.
