About the Opportunity
Parkes Shire Council is looking for motivated, reliable and hard-working people to join our Urban Operations team as Civil Construction Assistants. We are seeking people who take pride in their work, value safety, enjoy working outdoors and are willing to learn. Experience in civil construction is desirable, but it is not essential. If you have a positive attitude, are dependable and keen to build a long term career we want to hear from you.
Working under the direction of the Urban Works Supervisor, you will contribute to the delivery and maintenance of essential infrastructure including kerb and gutter, footpaths, drainage systems and associated road components. This role plays a key part in maintaining safe, functional and high-quality infrastructure for the Parkes Shire community.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Road construction and maintenance labouring, including tar patching
Concrete labouring including kerb and gutter, footpaths, road and drainage components
Installation and maintenance of signs and roadside furniture
Traffic control duties, including attainment and maintenance of required certification
Operate and maintain small plant and equipment
Assist with works survey set-out
Undertake maintenance of Council assets and facilities as required
Complete tasks as directed by the Supervisor in line with operational requirements
Ensuring all work complies with safety standards and procedures
Maintaining accurate records of work activities
Engaging in team activities and contributing to a positive team environment

About You

To be successful in this position you will need:
Current and maintained Drivers Licence
SafeWork NSW Construction induction (White Card)
One year of relevant hands-on experience in a similar role or industry.
It will be highly favorable if you possess any of the following:
Experience in civil construction or maintenance
Ability to use hand tools and operate small plant equipment
Basic literacy, numeracy and electronic device usage skills

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.
The role has been evaluated as being Grade 2 of the Council's salary structure with a commencing salary of $55,693.27 ($28.18 to $32.41 per hour). The commencing salary will be determined based on the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidate.
