Clinical Nurse Consultant B - Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance
Urology, Surgical Specialties | 0.6 EFT, Part Time Ongoing
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced nurse to join Monash Health Urology as the Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance Clinical Nurse Consultant - B.
The CNC will lead the Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance Nurse-Led Clinic (MURCNCP), providing advanced assessment, surveillance planning, education and coordinated follow-up for eligible patients with prostate cancer. The role will also progressively assume clinically appropriate activity currently undertaken through the BURPROP and/or urology prostate cancer registrar clinics at Casey Hospital for patients following transperineal biopsy.
Working within endorsed clinical pathways and governance arrangements, the CNC will independently review patients through face-to-face and telehealth consultations. This includes assessing symptoms, PSA trends, biopsy and histopathology results, imaging, comorbidities and psychosocial needs; developing individualised surveillance plans; coordinating required investigations; and ensuring abnormal, complex or uncertain findings are escalated promptly to the urology medical team.
As a CNC B position, the role extends beyond protocol-based follow-up and care coordination. The successful applicant will provide expert clinical leadership and consultancy, contribute to staff education, develop and refine clinical pathways, monitor clinic access and demand, and lead audit, quality improvement and evaluation of the nurse-led model.
About You
You will be an experienced Registered Nurse with advanced clinical knowledge in urology, prostate cancer, oncology, cancer nursing or a related specialty. You will demonstrate:
Advanced clinical assessment, reasoning and decision-making skills
The ability to practise autonomously within an endorsed scope while recognising when medical escalation is required
Experience in nurse-led clinics, prostate cancer surveillance, biopsy follow-up, telehealth or protocol-based models of care
Strong patient education, counselling and shared decision-making skills
Clinical leadership in service improvement, pathway development, education, audit and evaluation
Effective collaboration with patients, carers, urologists, multidisciplinary teams, diagnostic services and general practitioners
A strong commitment to person-centred care, clinical governance, patient safety and continuity of follow-up
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia is essential.
Postgraduate qualifications in urology, oncology, cancer nursing or advanced clinical nursing are highly desirable.
This is an opportunity to lead and further develop an innovative nurse-led service that improves continuity of care, patient experience and access to specialist urology services while enabling medical clinic capacity to be directed toward patients requiring complex diagnostic and treatment decisions.
Applications should include a cover letter, current CV and a response to the key selection criteria.
