Primary objective
Provide comprehensive administration support and contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of related services to the
department and its clients on planning and development matters.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide an accurate and informative enquiry service to clients in the department, development industry and broader
community either by telephone, by email or in person.
2. Administer and coordinate a range of administrative processes to support the planning team function and assist
professional staff with the administrative tasks involved in processing of development applications and development
permits under the Planning Act 1999.
3. Accurately coordinate and maintain records including electronic documents in HPE Content Manager, client database
records and client filing systems.
4. Assist professional staff including new employees on the use of the branch’s administrative processes and systems including
the Integrated Land Information System (ILIS), and records management including filing and archiving.
5. Manage the administration of the Development Consent Authority for the Southern region, including preparing meeting
agendas, liaising with the DCA members and assisting in the running of DCA meetings.
6. Undertake inspections of development sites for compliance with planning controls and conditions issued under approvals
and report evidence.
7. Provide support to other Lands and Planning work units as required, including reception and front counter duties.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated advanced competence in software applications including Microsoft Office suit, electronic mail, databases
and presentation software and ability to retrieve and collate data using Excel.
2. Well-developed interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate effectively written and spoken.
3. Demonstrated high level attention to detail, along with exceptional organisational skills with demonstrated ability to
work independently, Licence or ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Well-developed political and cross cultural awareness skills.
2. Working knowledge of planning legislation and planning processes in the Northern Territory.
3. Prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal communication skills and the ability to use initiative and display sound
professional ethics of confidentiality and discretion with an ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.
5. Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to read plans and interpret land information, legislation and
regulations.
