The Speaker Hospital is Sydney’s No. 1 speaker and amplifier repairer, established in 1981 and now located in Condell Park. We provide repair services for all major brands and specialise in servicing Home Hi-Fi and Pro Audio electronic equipment.
Responsibilities of the Role
We are looking for an experienced Electronic Technician who is self-motivated, well organised, has excellent time-management skills and takes pride in providing high-quality customer service.
The role will involve diagnosing, testing and repairing electronic equipment at component level, as well as testing and assessing speaker drivers and speaker systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Diagnosing and repairing electronic equipment at component level.
- Troubleshooting faults using schematics, service manuals and technical documentation where available.
- Testing and diagnosing speaker drivers including woofers, mid-range drivers and tweeters.
- Testing and assessing speaker systems and components to identify faults and performance issues.
- Testing and diagnosing amplifiers, receivers and other audio electronic equipment.
- Carrying out signal tracing and circuit-level fault finding.
- Using electronic test and diagnostic equipment to accurately diagnose faults.
- Carrying out system testing before and after repairs.
- Communicating with customers regarding repairs, faults and technical issues when required.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and professional workshop environment.
- Managing repair jobs efficiently and meeting expected turnaround times.
- Working independently while also contributing to a team environment.
Desired Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working as an Electronic Technician or in a similar electronics repair role.
- Experience in component-level electronic repairs is highly desirable.
- Experience with audio electronics, amplifiers, receivers, speakers or Pro Audio equipment will be highly regarded.
Specific Skills
- Ability to work proficiently at component-level repairs.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electronic faults with or without schematics.
- Competent in the use of electronic test and diagnostic equipment, including oscilloscopes, frequency/function signal generators, multimeters and other relevant test equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding and system-testing skills.
- Ability to use test equipment to diagnose faults in amplifiers, receivers, speakers and other audio equipment.
- Experience using an oscilloscope and signal generator to trace audio signals and diagnose faults through amplifier and receiver circuits.
- Ability to carry out signal tracing and voltage/current measurements at component and circuit level.
- Ability to test and diagnose speaker drivers, including woofers, mid-range drivers and tweeters.
- Ability to measure and assess speaker driver performance and identify faults within speaker systems.
- Understanding of speaker systems and the ability to identify faults in speaker drivers and associated components.
- Ability to interpret electronic schematics and technical documentation.
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and other relevant software.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage repair jobs from diagnosis through to completion.
- Motivated and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong initiative, reliability and attention to detail.
- Good problem-solving skills and self-confidence in making technical decisions.
Qualifications / Education
- Test & Tag Certification.
- Tertiary qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related field is desirable.
Applicants will be required to complete practical technical assessments and answer technical questions onsite as part of the recruitment process.
